Congratulations to Lendlease as their Hayes Point project at 30 Van Ness, which stalled amidst the recent economic downturn, is back online. The project's reversal in fortune is thanks to a deal with the city to strike the 25% on-site affordable housing requirement that was part of the 2020 approval for Hayes Point. This was made possible through the leadership of?Mayor London Breed and Supervisor Matt Dorsey, who introduced a proposal allowing the Hayes Point project to be designated as a special use district, an overlaid zoning district that allows additional — or relief from — land use regulations. Mayor Breed and Supervisor Dorsey's pro-housing policy adjustment is expected to pave the way for 333 much-needed new homes in SF. https://lnkd.in/gSZ_2MZB

N17 Development founder Oisin Heneghan is betting on San Francisco. Despite claims that high construction costs and a slow pandemic recovery have made housing development in San Francisco infeasible, Heneghan has brought forward several new projects, taking advantage of state and local laws that allow for increased density and a streamlined approvals process. Our Executive Director Corey Smith spoke with the San Francisco Chronicle last week, lauding N17 Development for their efforts to bring more housing to San Francisco and highlighting how Heneghan’s investment in the city reflects that housing production in SF is headed in the right direction. https://lnkd.in/gYMQ_3UC

It just became significantly easier to build junior ADUs in California ??. This week Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law AB 3057, which will streamline the permit and approval process for junior accessory dwelling units, smaller versions of the granny flat or in-law unit. AB 3057 will also be exempt from CEQA, allowing junior ADUs to avoid a barrier to development that other housing projects often face. Hats off to Assemblymember Lori D Wilson (D-Fairfield) for authoring this new law. We need more housing and AB 3057 will make it easier to build more of it. https://lnkd.in/g9Sbsyai

We’d be lying if we said we weren’t incredibly disappointed and frustrated that the BAHFA bond measure was pulled from the November ballot. The Bay Area needs more affordable housing; one of the best ways to get it is through bold financing efforts like a $20 billion bond measure. Our frustration, however, isn’t directed toward the folks at BAHFA who decided to pull the bond, but rather the Bay Area residents whose anti-housing sentiment created pessimism amongst BAHFA leaders that the bond would get the votes it needs to pass. Elections matter and we just missed a seismic opportunity to reshape the landscape of housing in our region. https://lnkd.in/gFpzWH9z

It's about time we have a presidential candidate who is serious about addressing our national housing shortage. “We will take down barriers and cut down red tape, including at the state and local levels... And by the end of my first term, we will end America’s housing shortage by building 3 million new homes and rentals that are affordable for the middle class.”?
