This October, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we continue to share Stories of Hope—testimonials from courageous survivors who have found safety and healing with House of Ruth. Our third feature in the series introduces Aleya, a mother of three who left her abusive marriage in July and found refuge at House of Ruth. With the support of our staff, Aleya has rebuilt stability and independence for herself and her children. Her kids are thriving—her son is now on the honor roll—and they are no longer afraid, free to simply be kids again. “House of Ruth helped us find stability and safety, and we continue to heal,” Aleya shares. Now, as a certified medication technician, she feels hopeful about the future, knowing that her House of Ruth case manager is always there when she needs support. House of Ruth is an organization that is very near and dear to me. Recently, I had the privilege of getting to know a family who was recovering from a dire life situation. They made it out safely thanks to the donors who ensure House of Ruth is successful in their mission. Their touching story led me to create a partnership with my company through our ERG, PACT. After our Mother’s Day initiative came the diaper drive. My mom wanted to know why I was lugging diapers into my car, so I told her about the diaper drive. She almost fainted. It turns out, she brought me to volunteer at House of Ruth with her when I was a child. Full circle moments like this are so special, and it brought House of Ruth even closer to my heart. Recently, I was honored to represent Bozzuto in attendance of the House of Ruth Annual Donor Reception. Thank you, Megan Cooke, for welcoming me and fostering this partnership. I hope through 2025 many more of my colleagues join me in supporting this important organization.

This year, Deloitte had the honor of being recognized as 2024 Community Partner by House of Ruth for the "Women's Career Kickstarter" event my co-lead Jenna Flack and I organized for Deloitte's #ImpactDay! Neisha Harewood Bailey, MBA and Carlena O. (our rockstar site leads) attended as well, and our hearts beamed while hearing how our work touched the lives of the HOR clients who participated. This experience reinforced the remarkable work House of Ruth is doing to empower survivors of domestic violence and homelessness. Their comprehensive services, including housing, counseling, and childcare, are making a profound difference. We are proud to stand with the dedicated HOR team, led by the inspiring Sandra Jackson, and all the other organizations contributing their time and services to this cause. A huge shoutout to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Show Choir directed by Taylor Young and the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Jazz Band directed by Reginald Cyntje! These talented student performers brought the house down at our 2024 House of Ruth Annual Donor Reception. They had us on our feet--dancing and singing along. Guests can’t stop raving about their electrifying performance of "Joyful, Joyful". Thank you for filling the night with so much joy!

This October, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we’re continuing to share Stories of Hope—powerful testimonials from past program participants who have found healing and new beginnings with House of Ruth. Our second feature in this series introduces Serena, who came to House of Ruth after battling addiction and houselessness. Despite years of struggle, Serena’s turning point came when she received a life-changing call from House of Ruth. Now, she’s no longer using drugs and is focusing on being the mother and grandmother she wants to be. “House of Ruth was the best thing that ever happened to me,” Serena shares, reflecting on her journey from sleeping in cars to finding hope, healing, and a supportive community.
