Employment is more than a paycheck—it’s about purpose, dignity, and inclusion. Yet, studies show that adults with autism face staggering unemployment rates. A 2021 study found that around 40% of autistic adults are unemployed, while recent estimates suggest it could be as high as 85%. It’s time for businesses to recognize the value of neurodiverse talent and create workplaces that embrace inclusion. On World Autism Day, let’s move beyond awareness to action. It's important to advocate for inclusive hiring practices, support neurodivergent employees, and challenge outdated perceptions. Everyone deserves a chance to thrive.

Still thinking about the magic of our 2nd annual HOPe Art Show! 🎨✨ A few weeks ago, our house transformed into a stunning gallery filled with paintings, sculptures, photographs, and more—each piece crafted with heart by our talented members. They create all year, but for this show, they truly brought their A-game! A big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to support.

🕵️♀️ From fingerprints to DNA—solving mysteries one clue at a time! A glimpse into the world of forensic investigations. 🔬 Earlier this month the Boston group made a trip across town to Boston Police Department's Crime Lab. There they got a behind the scenes look at what goes on each day. It was amazing to see how science helps crack the toughest cases. Thank you to Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin and our friends at Boston Police Department for having us! 🔬🕵️♂️⚖️

Happy World Down Syndrome Day! 🎉💙💛 Each year, a theme is chosen to shed light on important issues affecting the Down syndrome community. This year’s theme, “Improve Our Support Systems,” emphasizes the need for stronger, more effective support structures that uphold the rights, dignity, and independence of individuals with Down syndrome and their families. At HOPe, we recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of every individual. While people with Down syndrome often face misconceptions and stereotypes, we know that each person is unique, with their own strengths and potential. 💙💛

As Black History Month comes to a close, we honor the incredible legacy of Lois Curtis. On June 22, 1999, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Olmstead v. L.C. that unjustified segregation of people with disabilities violates Title II of the ADA. Public entities must provide community-based services when appropriate, not opposed by the individual, and reasonably accommodated within available resources. Although there are other people featured in the case, Lois Curtis (LC) was at the center. Lois was a Black artist and disability activist. She passed away in 2022. Without LC and the Olmstead decision, community organizations like HOPe might not exist today.
