The building offers clinical teaching labs and support spaces for medical diagnostics and translational sciences (MDTS), environmental health, gross anatomy, cytology, hematology, microbiology, instrumentation, clinical chemistry, molecular diagnostics, nuclear medicine, dental materials, and so much more. The Kinsale Insurance office building renovation has been well underway with continued interior construction on all four floors. The latest milestone is the removal of approximately 830 concrete panels off the exterior. Each of the larger pieces weigh anywhere from 9,000 - 12,000 lbs. The precast concrete will be replaced with a new storefront and curtain wall glass system that will have metal panel accents. The Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden conservatory expansion is well underway. The project consists of an addition to and renovation of the existing conservatory building. The addition will include two new wings, a central gathering space, and additional support spaces for staff. We recently shared how the City of Norfolk's Fire Department used the former DePaul Medical Center for essential training exercises. Large, vacant buildings like this provide a rare opportunity for firefighters to practice and refine their life-saving skills in realistic settings. Now, as local neighbors to this historic facility, we too feel the weight of its significance within the community as it enters the next phase: demolition. While we are honored to be entrusted with this responsibility, we understand the deep connections many have to DePaul Medical Center.
