According to Reuters, Japan’s core inflation rate eased to 2.4% in September, down from 2.8% in August, following the government’s temporary energy subsidies aimed at curbing utility costs. Despite this, the “core core” index, which excludes fresh food and energy, rose to 2.1%, indicating continued underlying price pressures. With the Bank of Japan’s (BOJ) policy meeting scheduled for October 30-31, market analysts are closely monitoring inflation data from Tokyo, which, according to a Reuters poll, may have dipped below the 2% target for the first time in months. The BOJ’s approach remains cautious, emphasizing the importance of wage growth and stable domestic demand to achieve long-term inflation stability.
