February was unforgettable at Hosanna House Inc. as we wrapped up Black History Month with an event that truly made history! ?? ? "Celebrating Black History: Honoring Our Past, Shaping Our Future" was more than just a gathering—it was a powerful moment of education, inspiration, and transformation. We brought together trailblazers in aviation, future leaders, and a community dedicated to opening doors for the next generation of Black pilots, engineers, and air traffic controllers. Here’s how we soared to new heights: ?? A Historic First: Aerium unveiled the "Red Bird" flight simulator—a game-changing training tool that will help young, aspiring aviators take their first steps toward the sky. ?? A Keynote to Remember: Titus Sanders of OBAP - Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals shared his personal journey and the vital role representation plays in aviation. ?? A Conversation That Matters: Our distinguished panel of aviation professionals gave real talk on breaking barriers, building careers, and why diversity in aviation is non-negotiable. ??? Student Voices, Future Dreams: A moving video presentation from students at Propel CS-Braddock Hills High School and Nazareth Prep showed us exactly why opportunity and mentorship change lives. ?? Walking Through History: The Smithsonian Enterprises traveling "Black Wings: American Dreams of Flight" exhibit brought the inspiring stories of the Tuskegee Airmen to life and highlighted the New Pittsburgh Courier’s role in the historic "Double V" Campaign. ?? A Special Surprise from Aerium! In a heartfelt moment, Aerium surprised us with a generous donation—a testament to their belief in the work we’re doing to empower and uplift future aviators. Their support fuels our mission, ensuring that more young people have the tools and training to reach for the skies. ?? Why does this matter? Because Black pioneers in aviation cleared the runway for future generations, and now it’s on us to keep building momentum. This isn’t just about celebrating history—it’s about making it. ?? ??? Wilkinsburg's Comeback Story Begins! ??? On February 28, 2025, history was made at Hosanna House Inc., as we broke ground on the Penn Lincoln Apartments—a transformational 41-unit affordable housing development in partnership with ACTION-Housing, Inc. This project is a significant step towards addressing the housing needs of our community, providing affordable and quality housing options for our residents. ?? Leon Haynes, CEO & President of Hosanna House, compared this moment to the legendary racehorse Seabiscuit—a champion that overcame doubt, changing hands multiple times before finding the right investment and care to reach greatness. "What is it about Wilkinsburg? What is it about the people here that we’re not willing to give up on?" Haynes asked. "Because we’re not. If you’re going to bet on something, bet on Wilkinsburg—because we’re going to do this!" State Senator Jay Costa, Jr., 43rd Senatorial District emphasized the importance of investing in people as much as in places, thanking Hosanna House for providing the community services that make projects like this possible. Wilkinsburg Dontae Comans reflected on the borough’s resilience: "Who would have thought the Penn Lincoln lot, once demolished, would rise from the ashes like a phoenix?
