CEO - Horizon Enterprises Recruiting | HR Consulting | Resume Writing | Now Hiring

Last night, I had one of those tough conversations. I had to turn down a candidate for a die corrector role here in the Memphis area, but instead of just accepting it, he asked: “how can someone break into this field?” Here’s the guidance I gave him, and I’m sharing it for anyone considering a path into Tool & Die: -Look into trade schools and tech programs. Places like Tennessee College of Applied Technology offer programs in Tool and Die Machining. Community Colleges can also offer associate degrees in manufacturing, which is another good way in. -Get hands-on experience with apprenticeships. ApprenticeshipTN connects people with on the job training in advanced manufacturing, and Tennessee FAME partners with companies for that hands-on experience. -Financial support The Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grant gives eligible TN residents up to $2,000 annually to attend TCAT. American Job Center Scholarships also fund training in manufacturing. Plus, the Tennessee Dept. of Labor & Workforce Development offers grants to help cover training costs. Getting into these types of specialized fields isn’t always easy, but with determination and the right resources, it’s achievable. Links are below in the comments for anyone interested!
