?? Driving Sustainability in Packaging: Horizon EU Green-Loop and Bio-Based Innovations ?? The future of packaging is here, and it's bio-based! The European project GREEN-LOOP is transforming the manufacturing industry by refining bio-based materials and optimising production processes to align with the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Among the key contributors is Mixcycling, an Italian company turning agricultural by-products into sustainable materials ideal for packaging. In collaboration with Guala Closures in Breganze (VI), they are testing bioplastics for tamper-evident closures for spirits, ensuring compliance with European safety regulations for food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals. ?? Highlights from GREEN-LOOP: Innovative Materials: Development of a new bio-based composite for injection moulding, used in prototypes like screw caps and oil dispensers.? Energy Efficiency: Introduction of a microwave-assisted production process, reducing energy consumption by up to 30%.? Regulatory Compliance: Bio-based thermoplastics tailored to meet the strict requirements of the PPWR, promoting reduced waste, recyclability, and circular economy principles. At the Ecomondo 2024 conference, the project presented its achievements and the potential of bio-based materials to replace traditional and recycled plastics, offering scalable, eco-friendly solutions across industries.
