As the Fall session kicks off, we’re excited to present one of our Horatio Alger Association of Canada interns and a proud National Entrepreneurial Scholar. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce Jaime White. Jaime is a social psychology student at McMaster University, where she also serves as president of her program’s society. In her free time, she volunteers with youth mental health workshops. Aspiring to a career in teaching, Jaime hopes to make a positive impact in the lives of students. In the near future, she plans to continue volunteering and contributing to her community in any way she can. The HAAC scholarship represents a life-changing opportunity, offering financial support, recognition, and motivation to pursue her dreams. Through her internship with the Horatio Alger Association of Canada, she has the incredible chance to lead sessions for high school students and raise awareness about the various scholarships the Association offers.

As students gear up for a new school year, we’d like to take this opportunity to highlight one of our Horatio Alger Association of Canada scholars and share their inspiring journey. Today, we're excited to introduce you to Allana Nakashook-Zettler. ? Allana chose to pursue post-secondary education because she recognized countless opportunities to make a difference in her community. Her goal is to be a catalyst for change, advocating for Indigenous representation in the workforce and ensuring Indigenous needs are understood by those who may not encounter Indigenous people on a day-to-day basis. By becoming a chemical engineer, Allana is committed to advocating for Indigenous communities, especially that of her own; the Inuit community. ? She is excited to meet new people and embark on her university journey. The Horatio Alger Association of Canada is proud to support scholars like Allana who are eager to seize new opportunities through higher education.

Higher education in Canada is grappling with economic, societal, and technological changes that threaten financial stability and complicate recruitment efforts. A recent survey of over 1,500 post-secondary students shows some gains in student satisfaction, but also persistent challenges, especially for vulnerable groups and in meeting expectations for seamless digital experiences. Now more than ever, it is crucial to support students from all social classes and diverse backgrounds by providing unique tools and opportunities, such as scholarships, to help them achieve their dreams.
