On this day, 24 years ago, The Hopi Tribe made the first gift of $10,000,000 to establish the Hopi Education Endowment Fund (HEEF). After 24 years, the endowment is stronger than it has ever been, leading to $13 million in scholarships awarded. ?? As we celebrate our birthday today, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of our donors and supporters over the last 24 years, without whom we could not have achieved accomplishment. We are happy that our Hopi students graduated with more than 600 degrees in that time span. Askwali - Kwak’kwa - Thank you! #hopieducation | #IndigenousScholars

"There are quite a few engineering degrees but I was interested in civil engineering specifically because I wanted to help improve the infrastructure on Native American Community lands. It was also to give back to my community." Get to know Hopi Student Wayne "Tewanima" Taylor IV in our Fall 2024 HEEF newsletter. He comes from Songopavi village and is Taawawung'wa (Sun clan). Students like Tewanima continue to receive financial support from HEEF, which makes it possible to reach their dreams of graduating. We are proud to share Tewanima's educational journey. ?? We would like to spotlight and celebrate Lexicographer, Silversmith, and Anthropologist Emory Sekaquaptewa nepu. By contributing to the creation and compilation of the first-ever Hopi language dictionary, Hopiikwa Lavaytutuveni: A Hopi English Dictionary of the Third Mesa Dialect, Emory helped to revive the Hopi language. ?? Shortly after graduating from the University of Arizona (U of A) Emory would go on to become an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology, at U of A in 1972. He also later held leadership positions on the Hopi Tribal Council, as well as serving as a judge on the appellate division of the Hopi Tribal Court. His lasting and continuing impact on Hopi education survives and is felt today. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth?|?#IndigenousScholars
