Chamber Events matter. Intentional conversations matter. We are thankful for opportunities to build connections in our community!
Sales/Business Development Pros: Do you ever have days when you just don't feel like getting out there and doing networking events? This morning, I woke up at 4:30am to get ready for a busy day. I have 4 events scheduled: A 7am Chamber breakfast in Lancaster, an 11:30 Networking Lunch in Blue Bell, a 2pm one-on-one and a 5 to 7pm Happy Hour. Then....a 90 minute ride home. Friends and family are often jealous when I tell them about these events. "You get paid to go to lunches and happy hours? You're so lucky!" But this morning, when I got in my car in the dark a little after 6am and the air temperature was MINUS 7 DEGREES...I certainly didn't feel lucky. So, I decided to chronicle my day with photos and commentary. The funny thing is that once the decision was made to chronicle it, I knew I would need to conduct myself in a way that would not bring about harsh criticism. So....unknowingly, taking that action was the first step to turning my attitude around to face the day with a positive mindset. Then, at my first event, things could not have gone better. I walked through the door of Eden Resort & Suites (while it was still dark) and was met by Liz Ackerman from the Northern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce. I was greeted with a warm smile and welcome. The banquet room was decorated beautifully, the food was great! (how many times do we get soggy powdered eggs, cold pancakes and bad coffee at events like these?), the guests were welcoming and everything went off without a hitch. I enjoyed the speakers and it truly seems the folks at The Chamber want to help local businesses and know how to help local businesses. I'm looking forward to partnering with them. I was seated between two amazing people: Gary McMullen, MBA from Lighthouse Vocational Services ( a great not for profit that works with disabled folks to find gainful employment) and Amy Thurston from Hope Inspire Love, Inc. (a not for profit fighting human trafficking). I urge everyone in my network to look at these fine people and great organizations. Support them if you can. I'll continue to chronicle my day. I'm at my lunch a ndthe temp has risen to a balmy 9 degrees at 11am. In the meantime: Those of you who are also "out on the circuit", how do you stay "up" all the time? Long days, bad weather, having to keep a smile and upbeat attitude day after day.....what tips and tricks do you have to keep that smile on your face (even when you just want to be back home, out of the cold, curled up under a blanket)?

It's going to be an *excellent* presentation - Amy Thurston always brings the knowledge and passion!
Join BHE faculty member Chris Owens, MA, LPC, CCTP, and our invited speakers Amy Thurston and Jessica Keener for a special presentation titled “Human Trafficking Prevention, Screening and Intervention.” 9/20/24 9 – 11:45 a.m. ET 2.5 CE Hours Live Webinar This training will equip health care and social service professionals with skills to identify potential victims of human trafficking, and then respond appropriately, provide treatment, give support and offer resources. This training builds the capacity of communities to identify and respond to the complex needs of individuals who are experiencing or have experienced trafficking and understand the root causes that make individuals, families and communities vulnerable to trafficking. This is a survivor-informed, evidenced-based, trauma-informed and patient-centered training that bridges the gap in knowledge, teaching professionals how to recognize potential victims of human trafficking, but also how to intervene and provide resources to help the victim. We’re grateful to be a part of The High Center for Nonprofits and can’t wait to see the ripple effect that our collective group can work together to achieve positive impact on our community. Thank you!
The High Center for Nonprofits welcomes Hope Inspire Love, Inc. to the High Center Community! Hope Inspire Love fights sex trafficking and sexual exploitation in three strategic ways: ?? Trauma-Informed Mentorship ??Outreach & Awareness ? Prevention Education Although anyone can be trafficked, evidence shows that when someone is highly vulnerable, they are more easily exploited, deceived, and manipulated - creating both despair and desperation. Today marked a wonderful jumpstart towards the collaborative approach of numerous agencies, nonprofits, survivors, elected officials, law enforcement, and advocacy groups working together to coordinate human trafficking prevention and awareness efforts across the Commonwealth. We gathered this morning at the State Capitol for the PA Protects Against Trafficking event sponsored by the Pennsylvania Interagency Human Trafficking Prevention Workgroup. We gathered together and saw the strength in numbers by collaborating and partnering together through a multi-disciplinary approach to addressing the needs of prevention, education, and awareness efforts. What an amazing day!
