Tracey Condosta, our Intake Specialist and Root of Good Care Counselor, is all smiles today as she talks about "Caring for the Caregiver" to the Area Agency on Aging's Senior Companion Program trainees! ?? Senior Companions can make it possible for vulnerable, older adults to remain safe and happy in their own homes, helping them retain their dignity and independence by providing regular, helpful visits. Tracey passed out our Caregiver Gift Kits and Hope Grows info, and discussed stress, stress management, and how something as simple as a balloon can help de-stress! ?? Lisa Story, MSCP, LPC, CT oversaw a training yesterday as well and is attending another on Friday. We're super grateful to have these opportunities to talk about Hope Grows and spread our knowledge of all things caregiving. ?? It's been a minute since we've shared a Volunteer Spotlight, and we're thrilled to introduce you all to Rona Matteo, a Corporate Support Specialist at Clearview Federal Credit Union here in Moon Township. Rona first met “The Lisas” this past year when they stopped in at Clearview. She didn’t know anything about Hope Grows, but after talking with them and doing her own bit of homework, the mission of Hope Grows hit her heart instantly and she knew that she wanted to help. Rona has been such an asset with prep work for Hope Grows' special events, especially the annual Victorian Tea and the Harvest Moon Raffle. When asked why she became involved: "It may have been the scones, ha! But in all honesty, after researching the organization, I knew Hope Grows was for me. I knew I could help others, even by simply passing along their information. It truly is a hidden gem, and I’m proud to be a small part of it." What does Hope Grows mean to Rona? "Being a caregiver myself through the years, and having family and friends in that role, the Iris Respite House is such a magical place to unwind. I’ve worked in Moon Township for the past 24 years and know so many people in this area. I believe with all my heart that Hope Grows is filled with angels just waiting to help others get through rough times. I keep their business cards in my desk, and when someone shares with me a story or need, I listen, sometimes cry, and confidently pass along information that just might ease the pain of being alone as they navigate through what I personally know can be a very difficult journey." When asked why should someone volunteer their time with Hope Grows, Rona says, "Everyone knows someone that would benefit from a little time shared at Hope Grows. It will give you a sense of calm, knowing that we’re in this together. It just feels good!" We happen to agree! ?? CALLING ALL COLLEGE STUDENTS! Hope Grows is once again looking for Undergrad Psychology (or related field) #Interns for this upcoming school year. You'll be assisting with our Think Caregiver program for family caregivers through monthly phone call check-ins. Strengthen your active listening skills, dabble in entry-level record/note-keeping, and learn the limits of peer support. You'll also have the opportunity to engage in support groups, psychoeducation involvement, and research and development as appropriate. This is an unpaid position that will run for one semester utilizing a hybrid schedule, both remotely and in person at the Hope Grows Iris Respite House Bed & Breakfast in Moon Township. Interested?
