We strongly believe in our integrated approach to helping survivors of domestic violence. Lorraine had the courage to leave her abuser. She escaped to our Safe House but found herself in a situation in which she was forced to return to her abuser's home to avoid losing custody of her children. Luckily our in-house and trauma-informed Legal Services team was brought in to build evidence of the domestic abuse she was enduring.? They also connected Lorraine with our Community Services team to help her find an apartment of her own, further strengthening her case in court to retain custody of her children. Watch our attorney, Yusra, tell Lorraine's story. We are happy to have helped Lorraine improve her life and the lives of her children as a result of providing all the assistance she needed through a combination of Center for Hope & Safety's programs. Each year, Center for Hope & Safety recognizes a member of the Board of Trustees with the Myra R. Elliott Award. This year, the award is presented to former trustee Shelby Klein. Shelby’s 11 years of service certainly reflect her dedication and commitment to our mission, but it is her insight, expertise and leadership during a period of tremendous change for the agency that is worthy of honorable mention. ?? Learn more about Shelby's contributions to Center for Hope & Safety and the lives of domestic violence survivors and their children. https://lnkd.in/ePZC5p8S Registration is now closed for Evening of Hope, but you can still help with our fundraising goals. Center for Hope & Safety could not ask for better community ambassadors than Pete and Jackie Miragliotta. Pete joined Center for Hope & Safety’s Board of Trustees in April 2018 and officially began his first term in February 2019. Pete was elected President of the Board just one year later. He is now serving his third term and has made an indelible impact over the past six years. Through it all, Jackie has been by his side. A retired teacher, she has volunteered for gift wrapping and at the thrift shop, and attended events with Pete, year after year. She has joined Pete in speaking with community members and the media to spread the word about Center for Hope & Safety and its work—as well as to seek support for its mission. We are happy to be presenting Sharon Kozinn and Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley with our 2025 Community Partner Award at next month's Evening of Hope dinner. Although Sharon Kozinn has been involved with Center for Hope & Safety for over 30 years, her commitment deepened after she joined Temple Emanuel 14 years ago and got involved with the Community Service Committee. With the committee’s support, she launched a program to cook meals for residents of our Safe House. Sharon and a dedicated group of 100+ volunteers prepared and delivered meals on a bi-monthly basis until the pandemic forced them to pivot in 2020. The dinners morphed into collections based on conversations about what our clients need most.
