Meet one of our heroes, Ron Kazmirski. Ronnie’s a retired critical care nurse. He acquired HIV through a needle stick in 1988 while caring for a young man dying from AIDS related complications. He worked there for another 10 years hiding his status for fear he’d be fired. People wouldn’t touch anyone living with HIV, it was strictly labeled a gay disease called, “gay-related immune deficiency" or "GRID" and became known as the “gay plague”. Fear, stigma, and countless deaths followed. Today, Ron writes poetry, bakes cookies monthly for homeless vets, plays piano, and is the life of any gathering. Enjoy his powerful poem, "We Say Gay." Our friends at Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida need your help! There was a fire that made their Men's Shelter Area uninhabitable. They are in need of men's clothing, men's shoes, financial donations, pillows, blankets, jackets, etc. Anyone bringing supplies or food can bring it to the gate of the coalition’s facility at 18 N. Terry Ave. in Orlando between the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our neighbors are in need, so let's try to help them! https://lnkd.in/eKfpFdB9
