关于我们
Officially formed in 2010 by Veronica De La Cruz, the Eric De La Cruz Hope for Hearts Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to assist in meeting the financial needs of heart transplant patients around the United States. The Foundation is based in California but seeks to assist heart transplant patients and their families throughout the country. OUR MISSION The Eric De La Cruz Hope For Hearts Foundation has been formed to honor the memory of Eric De La Cruz and fulfill his wish that no heart transplant patient would ever again have to suffer because of a lack of insurance or the inability to pay for life-saving medical treatment. On July 4, 2009, Eric De La Cruz ran out of time waiting for a life-saving heart transplant. Founded by Eric’s sister, Veronica De La Cruz, the Hope For Hearts Foundation will provide financial assistance, educational resources, and advocacy for heart transplant patients and their families as they face the daunting task of getting a second chance at life. Eric’s struggle even inspired a grassroots campaign, led by his sister Veronica, to support real change in healthcare through “Eric’s Law.”

A post from our Founder, Veronica De La Cruz: As we celebrate Independence Day on July 4th, I remember my brother Eric. This day marks the anniversary of his passing after a long battle for a heart transplant that never came. Eric was a college student with minimal insurance, and the insurance industry denied him coverage before Obamacare was enacted. After his death, I went to Washington to ensure that no one else would face the same fate, fighting for equal access to healthcare for all Americans. On this 4th of July, I?honor my brother, a true American hero. Today, I share a piece I wrote in his memory after he passed away: https://lnkd.in/e3tds3Br (link in?bio) The Eric De La Cruz Hope for Hearts Foundation continues to advocate for pediatric heart transplant patients and equitable healthcare for all. If you would like to support our mission, please consider making a donation of at least $20. As a token of our appreciation, we will send you a heart bracelet and a thank you note from yours truly. The 4th of July holiday is always tough for me. On this day, 12 years ago, my little brother Eric (left) passed away. He needed a heart transplant that was denied because of a pre-existing condition. A college kid with minimal health insurance, private insurance companies locked him out of the medical system. After fundraising efforts led by amazing people like Trent Reznor & Tony Hawk, we eventually got my brother the care he needed but unfortunately it was too late. After Eric died, I went to Washington to lobby #Congress for change in the?#healthcare?system. I fought to see the end of?#insurance?companies denying people coverage w/?#preexistingconditions. I pushed for change until the?#ACA?passed. I set up a nonprofit in his name? The Eric De La Cruz Hope for Hearts Foundation to help others facing the same plight. Today, I'm lucky enough to have my son, Hartley Eric De La Cruz (right) by my side. I named him?#HartleyEric, because of the banners people wore on their profile pictures : “?#Eric”. Amazingly, during that time, thousands of people, complete strangers, rallied around my brother Eric in support. Even though my brother is gone, his memory lives on in everything I do. He lives on in a nephew he never knew, yet looks like him. He lives on through the music we listen to, the lives we're grateful to live & the help we continue providing others. So tonight, as fireworks illuminate the sky and our nation celebrates its independence, my thoughts will be with my brother and the sacrifices he made. He was a brother to me but will always be a hero to countless others. We miss you, Eric. May you always rest in peace. #healthinsurance #nonprofit #healthcare #hearttransplant #ACA #healthcaresystem #fundraising #hope #insurance #trentreznor #tonyhawk #makeadifference #impactsocial #makeachange #hope #believe #hopeforhearts #ericdelacruz #veronicadelacruz #washingtonDC #change
