Congratulations to our 2024 Launch students who have spent their first semester on campus exploring Economics & Business at Hope. Throughout the course of the program, these students have participated in a professional-development workshop on storytelling, visited Wolverine Worldwide for a first-hand look at business in action, and took a deep dive into different industries (and competitive advantages for firms within those industries). Last week, each team shared the culmination of their work with a presentation to faculty. Special thanks to the many faculty mentors who help to make this program possible - Kevin Chastagner, Lauren Hearit, Matt Rodgers, Jackie Nickel, Morgan Wilson and Matt Adkins. Also, many thanks to Economics & Business alum Angela Garlinger for welcoming us and sharing more about Wolverine Worldwide. For students just starting the college journey, the exposure and experiences gained as part of the program are invaluable for the discernment and exploration process.

Case competitions are one of the key ways we bring consequential, hands-on experiences to our students. This competition was yet another example of how students in Hope College Baker Scholars have developed as leaders this semester. Congrats and great work to all involved! #leadershipdevelopment
The Bakers sure know how to collaborate and compete! Last week, the Baker Scholars participated in an intense 48-hour case competition, tackling complex leadership challenges in the context of Mergers & Acquisitions. Each team delivered unique analyses and innovative solutions, showcasing their exceptional skills. Congratulations to the winning team: Daniel Ferrier, Madeline Kenney, Camila Medrano, Kyle Sytsema, and Audrey Yellich! A heartfelt thank you to our outstanding judges—Kevin Chastagner, Thomas Dawson, and Kristen Noack—for your time, expertise, and invaluable feedback.

Congratulations to our two student teams who participated in The Risk Management Association Commercial Lending Competition this weekend!?Once again this year, we are excited to share that BOTH teams placed in the top five. Continuing Hope's strong tradition in this competition, these students competed against finance students from a range of colleges and universities as they presented recommendations around a lending scenario to a panel of judges (all professionals in the banking industry). Not only do our students walk away with top honors from this weekend's event, but also valuable industry connections and a cash prize. As part of the Baker Scholars program, Economics & Business students in their junior or senior year are exposed to a broad range of leaders and hands-on leadership experiences. The recent trip to Indianapolis is just one example of how our students are seeing leadership in action, growing together as a team and reflecting on personal and leadership development. Thanks to all the professionals and firms who made this incredible opportunity possible.
What an incredible Fall break trip! Last week, the Baker Scholars traveled to Indianapolis, IN, where we connected with business leaders and Hope alumni across various industries. Our journey kicked off with a visit to the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, where we met Hope alum Andrew Imdieke and Shane McCoy. In Indy, we had the privilege of meeting outstanding professionals, including Karen Atkeson at the Indiana Pacers, Zachary Boersema at YMCA, Patrick Lenihan at Eli Lilly & Company, Michael Leland at CountryMark, Louise McCleary at the NCAA, and Drew Schmitz at J.P. Morgan. We also hosted an inspiring alumni panel featuring Tracy Arney (‘91), Molly Meyer (‘17), Michael Shelton (‘17), and Rick Rivera (‘08). Additionally, we had the opportunity to connect with even more alumni during the Hope College Connection Live Event, hosted by the Hope College Boerigter Center. A heartfelt thank you to all the incredible professionals and alumni who made this experience possible! We’re excited to bring our learnings back to the classroom and into our ongoing leadership development.
