The past two weeks have been filled with phenomenal learning opportunities for the Bakers! We had the privilege of meeting with leaders Brian Calley and Carolyn Wilson, who shared invaluable insights from their unique perspectives in top-level leadership roles. We are deeply grateful for these enriching conversations!

Cooking up some collaborative teamwork! The Baker Scholars had a fantastic time exploring the importance of fostering a positive internal environment. Thank you, Brock Isanhart, for sharing your valuable insights on teamwork and leadership with the Bakers!
This week, students in the Hope College Baker Scholars program engaged in a team challenge at the Local Epicurean as they worked together to create a masterful risotto while?competing?for top honors in the "Food for Thought" challenge. Students put their cooking skills and "mystery basket" of ingredients to work - all while developing skills in teamwork, communication, problem solving and more. This weekend, the Baker Scholars immersed themselves in creative problem-solving through Design Thinking. Guided by insightful lectures on design thinking principles, the teams collaborated to tackle a simulated challenge focused on sustainability. In a world facing increasingly complex issues across industries, this workshop was invaluable for developing our innovative mindsets and solution-oriented approaches. Thank you, Ray Waite, MS, PMP, for making this transformative experience possible!

What an incredible Fall break trip! Last week, the Baker Scholars traveled to Indianapolis, IN, where we connected with business leaders and Hope alumni across various industries. Our journey kicked off with a visit to the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, where we met Hope alum Andrew Imdieke and Shane McCoy. In Indy, we had the privilege of meeting outstanding professionals, including Karen Atkeson at the Indiana Pacers, Zachary Boersema at YMCA, Patrick Lenihan at Eli Lilly & Company, Michael Leland at CountryMark, Louise McCleary at the NCAA, and Drew Schmitz at J.P. Morgan. We also hosted an inspiring alumni panel featuring Tracy Arney (‘91), Molly Meyer (‘17), Michael Shelton (‘17), and Rick Rivera (‘08). Additionally, we had the opportunity to connect with even more alumni during the Hope College Connection Live Event, hosted by the Hope College Boerigter Center. A heartfelt thank you to all the incredible professionals and alumni who made this experience possible! We’re excited to bring our learnings back to the classroom and into our ongoing leadership development.
