Being a salesperson is hard! But rewarding - especially if you believe in what you’re selling. So we asked Sydnee Olsen ?? our Chief Revenue Officer what she likes about it and what’s tough - here’s what she said.
Has your idea of what sales is changed since starting at Hook? Would you recommend it?
“Sales is one of the most rewarding, but most difficult jobs out there! When things are good, you’re flying high, but when they’re bad - man is it tough! If you can handle those high highs and low lows, I couldn’t recommend sales more. I think the longer you’re in it, the more pressure you feel to sell more and beat old numbers - people also start to expect more out of you, and there’s no room for slacking! Having now gone through multiple sales cycles, my perspective has changed a lot on the importance of consistent activity that leads to result, rather than simply the result.”
What have you learned from hvac and roofing salespeople?
“I’ve learned so much from HVAC and roofing salespeople! Number one that you can make unreal amounts of money ?? But actually - staying humble, and having a servant mindset, keeping the customers needs at the forefront of every conversation and interaction. If you come from a place of truly wanting to help, that authenticity shows through.”
How do you manage your emotions and habits when you’re in a surge? How do you handle them when it’s slow?
“I think when you’re in a sales surge and things are going really well, it’s almost a domino effect and YOUR confidence makes people feel confident, and ready to buy. The inverse is also true - when you’re in a lull, it’s easy to get down on yourself and you can come off really desperate to prospects, which isn’t generally very attractive! You just have to remind yourself that sales is a rollercoaster, and you’re never going to be in one season forever.”
Thank you for everything you do Sydnee! Sales is crucial and we’re grateful you’re here to help our clients find what they need.
