Prison Policy Initiative's "Mass Incarceration: The Whole Pie 2025" report reveals the staggering reach of the criminal legal system. While more than 1.9 million people are currently incarcerated, millions more are still impacted: ? 671,000 people are on parole ? 2.9 million people are on probation ? 19 million Americans have a felony conviction ? 79 million have a criminal record ? 113 million people have had an immediate family member incarcerated Mass incarceration statistics are shocking, but they don’t tell the whole story. Millions of people face barriers to jobs, housing, and stability long after their sentence is over. "Fair chance" or "second chance," why does the language matter?
