A big thank you to Shongum Elementary School for their multiple donations in the past month! First, in honor of #RandomActofKindnessDay, students collected and donated items from our HSI ‘wishlist’! They dropped off quite a haul! Then in honor of #NationalCerealDay, students participated in a fun, all cereal-themed learning day, even engineering a large domino path made out of 200 cereal boxes. They were kind enough to then donate those boxes to our kitchen pantry for our guests! We’re so grateful for the kindness and generosity of these young students. HSI is proud to be a partner agency of the Housing Alliance of Morris County, who recently hosted the Municipal Engagement Forum. The Forum provided panels and open discussion, where speakers such as Senator Britnee Timberlake and members of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs among others presented information to local municipal representatives on affordable housing options, planning and advocacy for Morris County municipalities and the state as a whole. We were delighted to have our CEO, Jackie Stoll and Director of Programs and Services, Shannon Muti at the event to participate in open dialogue with our community partners and receive valuable information from a knowledgeable panel. March is #NationalSocialWorkMonth and today is #WorldSocialWorkDay, so of course we need to recognize our amazing MSW staff and interns! Thank you to Shannon, Dekida, Jamie, Ray, Anne and interns Jennifer, Erin and Kelly for all that you do at HSI.?? The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) has declared the 2025 theme for social work month “Social Work: Compassion + Action” which we find so fitting for our dedicated social workers! With that, we’d also like to highlight a significant new program at Homeless Solutions, The Behavioral Health Program. Read the slides to learn more about it! And meet Behavioral Health Counselor and licensed social worker of the program, Ray Cao. Ray’s role is to provide a range of behavioral health services the program offers to the guests while they reside at the shelter. We’re so happy to have Ray with us – they were on staff with HSI a few years ago as the Single Men’s Admission and Discharge Coordinator before focusing on school full time to complete their MSW.
