My opinion piece ran in the New York Daily News this weekend. While the Mayor and Governor made some promising commitments, we need urgency, strategy and scale to move from a fragmented system of care to a comprehensive one that can effectively address the mental health crisis and support those who are struggling. This includes investing in proven models like Safe Havens, Intensive Mobile Treatment (IMT) and IMT step down programs and to focus on upstream programs like #OnTrackNY that intervene early and effectively prevent decades of suffering. Link to the piece is in the comments section.
Governor Hochul and Mayor Adams have made promising commitments to support New Yorkers with serious mental health challenges. But turning these plans into real change requires urgency, strategy, and scale. In this op-ed for the New York Daily News, our CEO, Jody Rudin, illustrates how proven solutions like Intensive Mobile Treatment (IMT), Safe Havens, and early intervention programs can make a difference if we invest boldly and act decisively. At ICL, 75% of IMT clients have received stable housing, and innovative programs like STEPS help reduce waitlists for critical services. The time for incremental change is over; we need a full continuum of care to meet people wherever they are. Read more in The Daily News: https://lnkd.in/eCFmwW7j

We can destigmatize the biggest challenges that New Yorkers face. It all starts with having candid conversations about mental health, substance use, and housing insecurity. Watch the dialogue that unfolds after three @ICLinc program participants said, “Ask Me Anything.” And pass it on to end the stigma! https://lnkd.in/egqVjrUr? #CoffeeOnICL #EndTheStigma #MentalHealthMatters #NYCNonprofit
