?? DID YOU KNOW? In March 2022, 91% of families surveyed struggled to find affordable, quality child care (@RapidSurvey, 2022). Home-based care is often the best or only option available for families in rural areas and for families needing care during nontraditional hours, like evenings, nights, and weekends. This care is often the most familiar, flexible, convenient, personal, and affordable option for families. #childcare Check out our home-based child care fact sheet to learn more ?? https://lnkd.in/dGWtxVMw

#NewRead Disaster on Top of a Disaster: Can Western North Carolina’s Child Care Infrastructure Recover After Helene? @dailyyonder After Hurricane Helene, many home-based child care providers have to navigate the loss of their home and their business, simultaneously. "On top of worrying about her own financial disaster, she is anxious about what will happen to children and families if child care programs shut down. 'My entire adult life has been about educating children and loving them every day,' says Sinclair. 'But people cannot go back to work without child care, so kids are going to be in unsafe situations. They’ll leave their kids home with a sibling, like a 9-year-old taking care of a baby because the parents have no choice. That’s an impossible situation for kids, and an impossible situation for families.'" Read more: https://lnkd.in/e__HeM-f

NEW BLOG: Student Loan Debt is a Critical Factor in the Early Educator Compensation Crisis "Adequate compensation, access to family-supporting benefits (health insurance, housing benefits, and retirement), and opportunities for debt forgiveness (both from student loans and medical expenses) are all important facets of child care compensation that our policy solutions must address. Student loan debt is a particularly important aspect of provider economic well-being because it is often a direct result of early childhood education policies that demand degrees and qualifications, but only rarely cover some of the cost and do not ensure that the workforce is paid commensurate with their experience and degree attainment. The home-based providers and caregivers that we work with at Home Grown both desire degrees and value the ones they have." Read more: https://lnkd.in/gYWwkSV7
