A lot of people think about our housing and homelessness, but we also spend a lot of time and energy working to combat food insecurity, too! Just yesterday we served almost 200 families in need of food, diapers, and other basics. Thanks to Katie S. Martin, Ph.D. and the More than Food crew for coming by to see our work in action!

As I continue my New Jersey tour this week, I want to give a huge thank you to Sarah Steward and Dylan O’Neill from HomeFront for taking time to describe their amazing services, starting with housing assistance, to healthy food, to home goods and also an incredible art space! Their focus is on families with young children and they are helping to end the cycle of poverty. Homefront is a model agency in the Mercer Street Friends network.

We are grateful to work with so many excellent community partners but probably none more often than our friends and colleagues at the Rescue Mission of Trenton and the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK). We share a goal of ending homelessness in our community and share time, talent, and resources to make it happen. This week, we kicked off a new initiative together to reach individuals and families experiencing housing crisis living in area hotels and motels to better understand the barriers to permanent housing and ensure our supports are reaching those most in need. We can and we will ensure that every family has a safe, decent, and affordable place to live in our community - and the Mission and TASK are key allies in that effort. #homelessness #housing

Yesterday, the Mission's shelter and mobile unit teams partnered with HomeFront to support local residents in need. The team visited motels in the Trenton area, conducting a door-to-door survey campaign to gather information for future permanent housing opportunities. Each participant received a hot meal. We successfully reached over 25 people and look forward to future collaborations with HomeFront.

HomeFront, Homes by TLC, and Lennar proudly announce the grand opening of 26 new units of affordable homes for low-income and working local families, situated within Lennar’s Hopewell Parc residential development. We are immensely grateful to the partners who made this possible: generous individuals, amazing corporate partners like Wells Fargo, and Hopewell Township. For a family to afford a modest two-bedroom home in Mercer County they must earn an hourly wage of $33.50, far more than the state's average wage of $24.40 or the current minimum wage of $15.13, according to this year’s annual Out of Reach report conducted by the National Low-income Housing Coalition. At minimum wage, an individual would need to work 95 hours a week to afford a two-bedroom apartment at the fair market rent of $1,742. Those living in the 26 apartments will pay no more than 30% of their income on rent. The project represents a remarkable collaboration between the non-profit and private sectors to address the critical need for affordable housing in the region. Through innovative design, sustainable construction practices, and a shared commitment to community welfare, Homes by TLC, HomeFront and Lennar are delivering tangible solutions to combat homelessness and housing insecurity. #HomeFrontNJ #CommunityPartners #EndHomelessness #NewJersey #MercerCounty #EndPoverty

We here at HomeFront have an ambitious mission – to end homelessness in Central New Jersey. To tackle a challenge this large, the HomeFront board and leadership establishes large, multi-year strategic plans to guide our growth, measure our progress, and ensure that we are being careful stewards of the resources entrusted to us. We are incredibly grateful to the Bunbury Fund at the Princeton Area Community Foundation for their support of our current strategic planning process. Their grant has provided us the resources to be thoughtful and diligent to take a wide array of voices into account as we have worked through the composition of our next multi-year plan. Stay tuned – we are looking forward to rolling it out publicly soon!
