Children thrive in families, not orphanages. Homecoming is a global movement working to see the 5.4 million children currently living in orphanages come home to loving families - through family reunification, kinship care, fostering or local adoption. https://buff.ly/2YRHuMF
关于我们
80% of children in orphanages have a living parent and most have other family members - siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles. But against a backdrop of poverty, orphanages can become magnets that attract families to surrender their children to them. Homecoming is a coalition of organisations that believe that children thrive in families and want to inspire and equip the UK church to support family strengthening, reunification, kinship care, fostering and local adoption as a healthier alternative to orphanages. We believe that children belong in families, not institutions, and so we want to see families supported and communities strengthened so that vulnerable children can thrive in the love and commitment of a family for life.

Historically, orphanages have been a long-standing form of caring for children globally, but a growing body of academic studies demonstrate the adverse impact of long-term institutional care on children’s development, life expectancy and outcomes. Imagine if every child had the chance to flourish in a family. Find out more on the Homecoming website: https://buff.ly/2YRHuMF

I love it when a project provokes my own thinking. Throughout working on this campaign for Homecoming I have had my own views and preconceptions of how orphanages operate around the world challenged and changed. I didn't know that more than 80% of children in orphanages around the world have a living parent. Or that for every three months a young child spends in an orphanage, they can lose a month of physical and intellectual development. That is why its been a joy to collaborate with the fantastic team of Tony Lewry, Kitty Hardyman, Sophie Tresidder, and Esther Smith-Adams (Along with many other partners and voices) to create this awareness campaign and learning journey and help share some things to change the narrative. If you want to learn about the global orphanage system, and how we can provide a better alternative that allows children to thrive in families join us on the lent learning journey. https://lnkd.in/d2APFU4u
'No child should ever have to experience what I did. We need to defend and protect families from separation.' Max shares his story of separation from family, growing up in an orphanage and living with the consequences as an adult. He speaks of the importance of family rather than institutional care, and dreams of a world where we can prevent families from separating, and bringing them safely back together where they have been separated. Together, we can change the story for others. Together, we can help children come home. Join our global movement to see families reunited.
