Under a?statute?that took effect in October, it is now illegal in Florida to sleep on sidewalks, in parks, on beaches or in other public spaces — one of the strictest anti-homelessness measures in the nation. US Veterans are more likely than non-vets to experience homelessness. The reasons include physical and mental health disorders caused by their military service, relationships that end because of long posts away from home, military skills that don't transfer to the civilian job market, and the difficulty and time involved in navigating the VA for benefits. 80% of homeless veterans are living on the streets. https://lnkd.in/g4hF3FTc

Women veterans are likely to experience homelessness in part because they're at risk for sexual assault during their service. Sexual harassment and assault are so prevalent in the military, the VA has an acronym for it: MST or Military Sexual Trauma, which is a leading cause of PTSD for female veterans.
