Building new lives for Orlando's homeless with Housing, Community Outreach and Awareness
关于我们
HomeAid Orlando connects the construction industry with front-line service providers to help end homelessness in Central Florida. Established from the membership of the Greater Orlando Builders Association (GOBA), HomeAid Orlando is the 20th chapter of HomeAid America. Since 1989, HomeAid America has carried out the mission of "building new lives for America's homeless through construction and community outreach." The chapters of HomeAid America have completed construction projects for non-profit services providers totaling more than $230 million; industry expertise and in-kind support have saved those service providers over 40% of the cost of these projects. In the process, 10,500 beds have been added and more than 335,000 people have been helped in facilities built or modified by HomeAid chapter builders. While we are in the early stages of set-up, we encourage anyone looking for more information to visit the national website, HomeAid.org.

WHAT IS YOUR WHY? "My parents instilled in me a strong urge to give back and help others who need help, which my wife continues to foster in me to this day. We are unique among charities in that our efforts are directed solely at non-profit organizations who directly help communities. In doing so, we multiply the effectiveness/reach of those organizations. We can have a greater impact on our community at large, by helping other non-profits leverage what they do for our communities." Bud Moscony, Esq., Sr. Vice President, Inspired Title Services, LLC

Under a?statute?that took effect in October, it is now illegal in Florida to sleep on sidewalks, in parks, on beaches or in other public spaces — one of the strictest anti-homelessness measures in the nation. This will severely impact homeless service agencies--and HomeAid needs to be in a position to help them expand their services and reach. My commitment to HomeAid Orlando is not just about financial support; it’s about being involved in a global solution that directly impacts our Orlando community. Seeing the difference my contributions make—knowing that my dollars are helping people find stability, security, and a voice—drives me to work even harder and share this mission with others. US Veterans are more likely than non-vets to experience homelessness. The reasons include physical and mental health disorders caused by their military service, relationships that end because of long posts away from home, military skills that don't transfer to the civilian job market, and the difficulty and time involved in navigating the VA for benefits. 80% of homeless veterans are living on the streets. https://lnkd.in/g4hF3FTc

Women veterans are likely to experience homelessness in part because they're at risk for sexual assault during their service. Sexual harassment and assault are so prevalent in the military, the VA has an acronym for it: MST or Military Sexual Trauma, which is a leading cause of PTSD for female veterans. What Is Your Why? "Working with HomeAid and seeing what an impact this organization has on the lives of those who desperately need assistance has given me that sense of purpose. The people around the organization are what drew me to HomeAid in the first place and getting to work with such talented people is the reason I will be around for a long time. James Hardie’s vision is to “Build A Better Future For All," which highly aligns with HomeAid’s core values. I am proud to represent these two great organizations and excited to contribute as a new member." Joe Chupela, Regional Account Manager, James Hardie HomeAid Orlando Advisory Board
