The company said the move, which is effective March 22, is related to the recent 20% increase in China tariffs. That increase brings the total tariff on China-made products to 45%, including the 25% tariff President Trump implemented during his first administration.

The imposition and threat of further tariffs have consumers worried, and that's not a good thing for furniture sales. Many in the industry were hopeful for a rebound this year, but those hopes are being dashed, at least initially. Furniture price increases have already started or are starting to take effect.

The Trump administration has threatened an additional 25% tariff on imports from Canada, including Canadian softwood lumber exports to the U.S. Some say that increased raw material costs will raise the cost of new construction, which could price many buyers out of the market.

The new stores, which range from 15,000 to 20,000 square feet, are in Aiken, Greenwood and Boiling Springs, South Carolina. With these additions, the retailer will have a total of 16 locations in the Carolinas.
