Home Forward showed up big time at the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) #WashCon25 conference this week! In addition to meeting with Members of Congress, CEO Ivory Mathews spoke on a panel titled, "Housing as a Basic Human Right: Exploring Solutions and Building Advocacy.” Thank you, Ivory, for making our collective voices heard in Washington!
#WashCon25 Day 2! During our morning plenary, we honored our Legislators of the Year (more on that tomorrow), presented NAHRO’s Advocate of the Year to the Virginia Association of Housing and Community Development Officials (VAHCDO), presented 20 Awards of Excellence, and held a discussion on Housing and Community Development in Uncertain Times with NAHRO President George Guy, PHADA_USA President Mark Gillett, CLPHA President Jeffrey Patterson, and MTW Collective Senior VP Maria Razo. Bonus: we got to sing happy birthday to our #WhatHomeMeansToMe grand prize winner Adriana! Then came two sets of packed sessions on topics such as working with youth, preparing housing agencies for Immigration and Customs Enforcement visits, housing as a human right, a Rental Assistance Demonstration overview, preparing for NAHRO’s Hill Day, a homelessness panel discussion and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency's cybersecurity for housing authorities. We closed out a full day with our afternoon plenary session, where President Guy discussed advocacy strategies and successes with Bobby Collins, Robert Greathree, Marsha Parham-Green, Chonda Tapley and Michael Wong, and heard former NAHRO president Sunny Shaw spoke with presidential candidate Sean Gilbert and Senior VP candidate Ivory Mathews. Can’t wait for Day 3, when all our advocates head to Capitol Hill and raise their voices for housing and community development!

This week, Home Forward CEO Ivory Mathews and team are at the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) #WashCon25 Conference. While in DC, they will be meeting with Oregon's Congressional delegation to provide information about our programs that make housing more affordable in Multnomah County!
Day 0 of #WashCon25: Daylight Savings Time didn't stop our dedicated leaders from starting work bright and early! Special shout-outs to our Western, Mountain and Central time zone leaders for adjusting to a more dire time change than usual. At today’s leadership welcome, NAHRO President George Guy talked about what leaders do: have difficult conversations, move forward with optimism and ensure that we have a seat at the table. Senior Vice President Sean Gilbert focused on our opportunities to fight on behalf of the families and communities we serve, and CEO Mark Thiele emphasized the importance of two-way communication: keeping up with NAHRO news and advocacy alerts, but also sharing challenges and successes with the NAHRO team. Director of Policy and Legislative Affairs Eric Oberdorfer closed the session with an update on news from HUD and Capitol Hill, and a walkthrough of advocacy resources. Next up: a full day of committee meetings – and learning, for the dozens of attendees taking our sold-out Commissioners Guide to Monitoring and Oversight and Emerging LEADership Program trainings, followed by the Board of Governors meeting on Monday morning. It’s a lot to do before #WashCon25 even officially begins, but our members are dedicated professionals who always find ways to serve their communities and speak up for them on Capitol Hill, and we are #grateful for them.
