We had a fantastic time at STEM FEST 2024, hosted at UW-Green Bay, Manitowoc Campus! Fellow team members from nursing, infection prevention and lab services joined forces to present fun, hands-on activities for 4th and 5th graders. Students participated in a hand hygiene demonstration, learning how important this simple practice is in health care. Meanwhile, our laboratory staff gave an inside look into the fascinating world of lab sciences. From explaining how phlebotomists find veins to draw blood, to showing students how to identify cells under a dual-headed microscope, our team made science come alive! Students also explored microbiology by viewing bacteria and yeast cultures and learned about the vital roles of histology (the study of tissue) and hematology (the study of blood). Thank you to The Chamber of Manitowoc County for connecting students with STEM in health care.

Holy Family Memorial is grateful for the dedication of Sister Caritas, a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity. As director of the Holy Family Convent Archives, her career spans from ER nurse to nursing instructor, and committee work for the hospital's milestone anniversaries. Sr. Caritas believes in walking in a patient’s shoes to understand their journey, making health care a true vocation. We are blessed by her service and commitment to our mission.

We recently partnered with United Way Manitowoc County to assemble 250 hygiene kits for homeless individuals in Manitowoc County. Alex Hunt, executive director at The Haven of Manitowoc County, a local men's homeless shelter, joined us and shared valuable insights on the vital services they provide for men in need. It was an inspiring collaboration, and we're proud to contribute to such an important cause that supports dignity and care in our community.

We were excited to partner with NEWAHEC: Northeastern Wisconsin Area Health Education Center and welcome 25 students from Mishicot High School, eager to explore careers in health care. The students took part in a panel discussion with our nursing and physical therapy team members, who shared their career journeys, successes and challenges. It was an inspiring day filled with valuable insights and enthusiasm for our future health care professionals. Students interested in exploring health care careers can become a student volunteer at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital to gain hands-on experience in areas like pharmacy, the emergency department and orthopaedics.
