Timberlab recently finished mass timber for the new Multnomah County East County Library project in Gresham, Oregon. This project is special to us for many reasons. It marks the beginning of our step into mass timber manufacturing since acquiring American Laminator's legacy glulam operations here in the region. What a privilege to work on delivering the quality glulam on this structure with a team of brilliant individuals. The level of collaboration we were able to achieve between our manufacturing and fabrication teams really helped the overall success of the project and delivered it faster than scheduled. Congratulations to Holst for their Merit Award at the Oregon Architecture Awards for The Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts (PRAx). ? PRAx brings together music, theater, digital communications, and the visual arts to create a campus centerpiece for culture and creativity. The complex is a comprehensive education and performance facility with a 500-seat recital hall, black box theater, flexible art gallery, customized support spaces, and a site design configured for outdoor performances and public gatherings. PRAx breaks new ground as a building supporting a blended visual and performing arts model. The multi-disciplinary program for the facility eschews traditional front-of-house and back-of-house separations, instead weaving student performance and learning spaces throughout the building. The architecture supports the idea of “collapsing distinctions” between audience and performer, rehearsal and performance, students, and the public.

Congratulations to Holst for their Citation Award at the Oregon Architecture Awards for Fora Health. ? Fora Health is ”A place for healing.” This phrase was the singular vision that transformed over three acres in East Portland from a vacant urban property into Fora Health’s unmatched treatment campus. It drove the design of a space that would better meet the needs of Fora’s patients and bring the organization’s administrative offices and residential, outpatient, and withdrawal management programs together under one roof.\ Through contemporary, trauma-informed design, the facility now offers a welcoming, spa-like environment that removes the stigma of rehab. As part of Fora’s commitment to ”care for the whole person,” the facility provides a full continuum of care: patients receive the best medical treatment and activities that help them express themselves, develop healthy habits, and build resilience. #architecture #architectureawards #oregon #oregonarchitecture

The Washington County Center for Addictions Triage and Treatment (CATT) site in Beaverton is well underway. The project includes a renovation of an existing 24,000 s.f. structure as well as the ground-up construction of a 14,000 s.f. building connected via a ground-level breezeway and outdoor courtyard. The renovated facility will house withdrawal management services and sobering services while the new building houses two residential treatment programs with group therapy rooms and a fitness center. Both buildings share a key feature for wellbeing: access to nature with two courtyards providing biophilic spaces for program participants. We can’t wait to share more updates on this important facility as it comes to life over the next year! Architect: Holst

The Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts (PRAx) at Oregon State University is a versatile venue featuring multiple performance and exhibition spaces that integrate cutting-edge acoustic and audio/video design by Jaffe Holden. The center features the 490-seat Lynne Hallstrom Detrick Concert Hall, designed for optimal sound quality with custom motorized acoustical banners from Wenger Corporation that enhance clarity and reverberation control, and the Edward J. Ray Theater, a black box theater offering flexible configurations for smaller performances, classes, and exhibitions. These spaces reinforce the venue's commitment to superior performance standards. Jaffe Holden provided acoustic and audio/video design services on this project in collaboration with Holst, H3 Architecture, and Theatre Projects. Last Thursday, Holst staff toured Multnomah County Library's East County Library construction site! Located in Gresham, Oregon, the new community landmark will provide 95,000 square feet of spaces dedicated to learning, creation, play, connection, and so much more. The forest-inspired mass timber design prioritizes access to nature through materiality, ample natural light, and native landscaping. The tour was a fun opportunity for our office to learn more about the project, discuss the building’s progress, and take a sneak peek into the exciting programming that East County Library will bring to the community. ?
