As fall approaches and summer comes to a close, we’ve begun to reflect on our journey with Holmes’ 2024 DEI Scholarship Interns. This year we had the opportunity to award two Holmes Diversity in Structural Engineering Scholarships in conjunction with the NCSEA Foundation. The NCSEA awarded over $70,000 in scholarships this year. Through this, we were able to award San Francisco State University student, Divino Gonzales and University of California, Berkeley student Edwin Reyes Barreras as the 2024 awardees! We feel grateful for the opportunity to be a small part of their journey to reaching their educational and professional dreams. Groundbreaking news soars through University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletics as their ICA Basketball Training Facility is officially starting construction! Holmes contributed to the structural and fire engineering of the project. This week, our Seattle-based design team, Emily Carlip, P.E, S.E., Greg S Briggs, SE, LEED AP, Hon. AIA Seattle, and Jake Mann, EIT had the opportunity to attend the groundbreaking event. The ~$60 million Integrated Design Build project consists of two practice courts, recruiting rooms and viewing areas for women and men’s teams. Upholding Title IX is core to this development with gender equitable spaces for each basketball program. A big thank you to our design partners in helping us create this premier intercollegiate home.
