Closing out our 2024 Award Recap with the project of the fallen redwoods!
A jury of five reviewed more than 183 design award submissions, and Studio Schicketanz’s, historic Big Sur Cabin took home the AIA 2024 Design Citation Award. Holmes contributed to the structural engineering of the cabin. The award framework measured the project under the following design metrics: integration, equitable communities, ecosystems, water, economy, energy, well-being, resources, change and discovery.
Contributing to a more sustainable future, the designed lifespan of the historic cabin is 80 years with a mixed structural system consisting of steel, concrete and wood framing. The design has considered the impact of climatic change over the building’s lifespan as the project consisted of reclaimed redwood locally milled and fabricated into siding, wall paneling and cabinetry.
We are thrilled to see this beautiful forestry home be recognize for its excellence in climate awareness and sustainable growth.
Thanks for tuning in to our 2024 Award Recap!
