Empty and half-filled office towers threaten the health and vitality of urban centers. The most common solution is to convert these buildings into residential use. Yet not all office towers are good candidates for residential conversion. Could those buildings be adapted for something entirely new and novel? That’s what a team of designers and engineers in our San Francisco office recently explored. Their study examined: - ?? On-site data servers (to speed innovation and computing) for the next wave of AI technology - ?? Energy harvesting to nourish incorporated agriculture - ??? “Officetel” live-work units to nurture startup culture and draw new businesses and population into downtown office districts.
