Across the decades, Rosalynn Carter’s efforts on behalf of mental health bore legislative fruit – she became just the second first lady to testify before Congress in a successful push for the Mental Health Systems Act of 1980. https://bit.ly/3CBMw9Q

Transforming how communities promote mental health in everyday life.
关于我们
Vision: The people of Texas thrive in communities that support mental health and well-being. We envision a future in which all people in Texas thrive in communities that support mental health, achieve health equity, and promote well-being. This means that the extent to which people are connected to resilient communities that support their mental health is not determined by where they live, how much schooling they have, how much they earn, what they look like, what language they speak, who they love, or how they worship. People feel safe in their neighborhoods and experience a sense of control over their own lives. A broad array of institutions, programs, and services are designed with mental health and well-being in mind. Mission: Transform how communities promote mental health in everyday life. Mental health is not solely an individual responsibility but is a product of community conditions. The places where people live, learn, work, play, and pray can have a significant impact on improving mental health. Some mental health conditions are exacerbated by medical or clinical barriers, such as the lack of mental health professionals in the state. However, many poor outcomes stem from challenging environmental factors like housing stability, neighborhood infrastructure, and conditions at home, work, and school.

In the dynamic landscape of mental health policy, the Hogg Foundation’s Policy Unit has shown a steadfast commitment to advancing mental health equity in Texas through strategic initiatives and innovative projects. Over the past two years, the unit has undergone significant transformations, including the conversion of our Mental Health Guide from a traditional print publication into an interactive website and focusing the next cohort of Policy and Peer Policy Fellows on a children, youth, and families policy theme to better support collaboration. https://bit.ly/3Z12t1T

Since 1978, the Hogg Foundation has hosted the Robert Lee Sutherland (RLS) seminar as a convening of advocates and allies for mental health and well-being in Texas. Topics for the seminar have typically aligned with the foundation's priorities, as well as current or upcoming initiatives. The next RLS seminar will be held in the fall of 2025. We would greatly appreciate your input to help inform content and programming decisions for the 2025 seminar. Please respond by Friday, December 13. https://bit.ly/4eH9SrR
