Inductive Automation has long supported water and wastewater utilities, recognizing their importance, despite limited funding. Following a recent hacking attempt in Florida, they're even more committed to offering free resources and affordable solutions to help upgrade utilities, without high costs. They've gathered three articles from Water & Wastes Digest showcasing how these utilities use Ignition Edge, the Ignition Perspective Module, and Ignition Exchange to improve SCADA systems. These stories highlight the benefits of edge computing for faster data collection, mobile technology for plant floor efficiency, and collaboration across the SCADA community. MODERNIZING JUSTICE: Transforming An Old Courthouse With An Ignition SCADA Integrated Facility Management System Inductive Automation This case study highlights a complex challenge: Modernizing a 48-year-old courthouse to meet today's operational and security standards.?The unique issues from shared spaces to outdated security protocols present an interesting case study. Challenge: A 48-year-old courthouse faced severe operational and security inefficiencies due to outdated infrastructure. Critical issues included: Spatial Constraints: Judges, inmates, district attorneys, and the public shared common areas, compromising safety. Security Risks: Inmate transport required multiple vehicle transfers, increasing escape risks. Deteriorating Conditions: The aging building no longer met modern standards. Actions: The county commissioners decided to build a new courthouse. DSI was chosen to upgrade the detention and communication systems. Key solutions included: Secure Transportation: An inmate tunnel and relay-based system for secure elevator control, along with remote door controls and lockdown capabilities. Security & Monitoring: Installation of Ignition software for door and alarm monitoring in 12 inmate zones, providing access control for secure areas. Intercom & Alarm System: Over 100 intercoms and a silent alarm system for discreet emergency communication. Central Control System: Deployment of Schneider PLCs with redundancy, ensuring continued operation even in case of system failure, and backup power via UPS systems.
