From drawing to final installation, the APE Studio team and Richter Spielger?te collaborated with local historians and Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architects to craft a ship that honors to the rich maritime history of Okoboji, Iowa. Formerly an overgrown vacant lot, East Lake Park now features the Minnie Queen ship with accessible elements, climbing, slides, and sensory experiences along on the shore of Iowa's famous Lake Okoboji. #playgrounddesign #accessibility #play

Chicago's Old Post Office has undergone a remarkable transformation, blending history with modern functionality. Thanks to a renovation by Gensler, the art deco landmark now houses 16,000 office workers. Its 3 ?-acre rooftop, designed by Hoerr Schaudt, offers an alfresco amenity featuring meandering footpaths, perennials, and grasses planted in a custom lightweight soil mix. We’re thrilled to share that our rooftop project, Skylawn at POST Houston, received a Jeffrey L. Bruce Award of Excellence Special Recognition Award from Green Roofs for Healthy Cities! ??? Associate Principal Brian Davis accepted the award at the Cities Alive conference in Toronto, celebrating the project's impact on Houston's urban core. Spanning 5 acres, Skylawn is the largest rooftop park and organic farm in Texas, blending diverse plant typologies, public spaces, and flood mitigation for Buffalo Bayou—all with incredible views of downtown Houston. ?? For Brian, this award holds special meaning as it honors his mentor of 15+ years, Jeffrey L. Bruce, who inspired his expertise in green roofs. “It means a little more to accept this award not just for Hoerr Schaudt but also in honor of Jeff,” Brian shared.
