In late February, a few members of the TriCoast Family had the privilege of working alongside the team at PARADISE BOUND MINISTRIES (PBM) to serve the people beautiful people of Guatemala.? ? Our team spent most of the week serving a family in a village just outside of Chimaltenango.?The home consisted of 5 separate families: all of them living in a structure with dirt floors (most of the time muddy from the rain), with rusty corrugated steel walls & roofs.?Their beds were weathered and dirty and the home was dark & damp.?Living in the mountains, the temperatures get cold and most nights they struggled to stay warm.? They recently experienced heavy rains that caused a washout to come right into their home – it was filled with a foot of water.?They were told that they needed to pray for a miracle.? ? Prior to our arrival, the PBM team was able to level, back-fill, and pour concrete slabs 2 feet above the previous grade to mitigate the rainwater.?Our team came in and built two 10x12 standalone homes and a “tri-plex”.?The Matriarch of the family was Elva Figurero, her gratitude for our team was overflowing.?After the build was complete and we handed over the keys; she said that she had ‘never had a door before’.? ? We spent the week building relationships not only with the family but with each other as well.?In addition to the PBM Team, we were joined by absolutely amazing, hardworking individuals from Inontime, Top Grade Site Management, LLC, Burgess Concrete Construction, Hoekstra Electrical Services, First Companies, Inc. and Dan Vos Construction Company Inc.? It was an incredible week that we will be forever grateful.
