March is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month, and we’re highlighting Hoag’s transformative work in MS care. With funding from Hoag Innovators, Dr. Yasir Jassam, FRCP, FAAN, Director of Hoag’s Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Program at the Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute is pioneering a groundbreaking innovation in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) diagnostics: the world’s first predictive blood test to assess MS risk. Designed to detect early signs of MS before clinical symptoms appear, this test combines advanced imaging and blood analysis to accurately identify individuals at risk, enabling earlier intervention and personalized treatment plans. This innovative tool aims to transform MS care by reducing misdiagnosis rates, predicting future disease progression, and providing families and the medical community with critical insights to manage and plan for the impact of MS. Dr. Robert G. Louis, Empower360 Endowed Chair in Skull Base and Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery and a leader in minimally invasive neurosurgery at Hoag's Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute, is collaborating with the University of Miami to push the boundaries of brain cancer treatment. Together, they're exploring cutting-edge technology — a micro-robotic arm guided by MRI and controlled magnetically — with the potential to: -Reduce brain surgery incision size to less than 3mm -Minimize bleeding and risk of infection -Improve patient outcomes and recovery times -Target aggressive brain cancers like Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) Could this innovation make traditional craniotomies a thing of the past? The future of brain surgery is here — and Hoag is at the forefront. #Hoag

In 2005, with the opening of the Sue & Bill Gross Women’s Pavilion, Hoag installed the first MRI unit in Southern California dedicated to Women’s Services — a milestone made possible by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation. Their $2.5 million grant fueled breast cancer research, advancing the use of MRI technology to more accurately detect and treat cancer. In recognition of their generosity, Hoag named the Arnold & Mabel Beckman Imaging Center in the Women’s Pavilion — a lasting tribute to the power of philanthropy in transforming women’s health. As we celebrate 20 years of innovation, we honor those who have shaped Hoag’s history and continue to drive life-changing care forward. #WomensHistoryMonth #HoagHistory #PhilanthropyInAction
