Just finished a great HLC board meeting. We always focus on students and our member institutions. Yes, a lot is going on in higher education, but know that HLC is on top of it and stands ready to be a thought leader and partner. I look forward to seeing the 3500+ attendees headed to our Annual Conference in April. So much to discuss and share. I am excited about returning and new attendees coming together to take deep dives into key issues in higher education and share their ideas with colleagues. I'm counting down the days!

HLC has signed a letter from the Council of Regional Accrediting Commissions (C-RAC) sent to the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights yesterday in response to its recent guidance regarding racial considerations for institutions. Read more: https://bit.ly/43dWlWM

Late Friday night, the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights issued a sweeping directive declaring that all race-conscious student programming, financial aid, and support services violate federal civil rights law. Colleges and universities now have just 14 days to comply—or risk investigations and the possible loss of federal funding. Join ACE President Ted Mitchell and dotEDU Live hosts Jon Fansmith, Sarah Spreitzer, and Mushtaq Gunja as they unpack the implications of this latest order from the Trump administration and what it means for campuses. https://ow.ly/yW3950UY8uK

Each year, HLC member institutions report information to us about their finances, enrollment, academic offerings and other data in the Institutional Update. We use this information to keep track of institutional health and identify trends in our membership. The reporting period for this year’s Institutional Update is March 3–April 4, and institutions can take steps now to prepare. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4htCjvx

I would like to state how very sorry we are at HLC for anyone impacted by the tragic air collision that took so many lives last night. We work closely with our institutions in the Wichita region and all of Kansas. It is unspeakable about how something can go so wrong and in a moment frozen in time, take the lives of 67 fellow human beings. We are thinking of the friends, family and anyone in higher education and the community who lost loved ones.
