This 15-minute forum has been an amazing opportunity for local non-profits—many of whom rarely get such a platform and often lack the budget for advertising—to share their impactful work supporting service members and military families. At the invitation of The Chamber of Catawba County County, HKY4Vets Co-Founder Nathan Huret had the honor of speaking to this year’s Leadership Catawba class about tapping into underrepresented talent pools and the unique barriers some groups face in finding meaningful employment. Nathan highlighted the challenges veterans and their spouses often encounter—moving from an environment where every aspect of their lives was structured, to suddenly navigating a job search on their own. It’s a journey that can feel isolating, and it’s a big reason why HKY4Vets exists—to help smooth that transition and create opportunities for success. Today’s event also allowed us to shine a spotlight on one of our own success stories: Adam S., our Director of Operations. We had a great kickoff to the Green Zone Corporate Training Series with Joanna DeMott leading 15 attendees through an insightful session! This first, high-level overview highlighted the unique value military talent brings and discussed some of the challenges service members face when transitioning from military to civilian careers. Joanna, who has firsthand experience as a military spouse with nearly a dozen relocations during her husband’s Marine career, also shared valuable insights on understanding career gaps and the unique strengths military spouses bring to the workforce.
