In honor of Native American Heritage Month, we’re highlighting the innovative work of the Lower Sioux Community who are leading the way with their Hemp Program and Housing Project. Producing and using hempcrete, a sustainable material made from hemp and lime, they are creating healthier, eco-friendly homes that offer better air quality, thermal control, and durability. This “seed-to-wall” initiative sets a remarkable precedent for sustainable construction, which minimizes environmental impact while offering a modular, cost-effective building process. By integrating traditional knowledge with innovative methods, the Lower Sioux are shaping a more sustainable future for their community and beyond. Team HKP had a blast in Seattle at our annual fall retreat! We spent the morning at FSi Engineers’ office, collaborating on our vision and goals for 2025 and enjoying some fun team-building activities. After a productive session, we checked out the new Waterfront Overlook, enjoyed some lunch at Pike Market, visited the Seattle Aquarium's new Ocean Pavilion, and headed back north on the light rail. It was a perfect way to recharge and refocus for the year ahead! #TeamBuilding #ArchitectLife #SustainableArchitecture #HKPRetreat #FutureOfArchitecture #SeattleAquarium #2025Goals #CommunityDriven #ArchitectureCommunity #InspirationInSeattle #FSi #HKParchitects #HKP

On a recent weekend, Austin, Julie, and I from HKP Architects got the opportunity to join Skagit Trail Builders for a work day on Hill Creek Trail at North State Recreation Area! It’s always great volunteering with STB because they are such a tight-knit and efficient team. They always have a plan in place to get as much done as possible during their Saturday work parties, and the positive energy is infectious even when it’s wet and muddy. It’s also fun to work with the high school students on the Next Gen Leaders team, since they’re super capable and always willing to train us on tasks we haven’t tried before. I feel lucky that I get to give back to other Skagit trail users with fellow HKP staff and such an outstanding group! #CommunityBuilding #YouthLeadership #TrailBuilders #EnvironmentalConservation #HandsOnLearning #SkagitValley #SustainableTrailWork #OutdoorVolunteering #TrailRestoration #EmpoweringYouth #SkagitTrailBuilders #STB #HKParchitects #HKP

We’re thrilled to hear such wonderful feedback from Ingrid Mattson, Director of the Orcas Island Library: “Folks marvel at the library all the time – your team did an amazing job, and I am so glad we worked with you both times for the building. It’s lovely.” We’re proud to have played a part in creating this beloved community space, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to help bring this vision to life. #CommunityBuilding #LibraryDesign #ArchitectureThatInspires #InnovativeDesign #SustainableArchitecture #GreenSpaces #PublicSpaces #InclusiveDesign #DesignForGood #HKParchitects #HKP
