We were at the Hispanic National Bar Association annual conference last week that took place in Washington, DC! It was an intense, fun, supportive, and community building event. This organization continues to be of paramount importance in advancing Latinx lawyers across the country! I was also selected to participate in the 2024 Latina Leadership Academy, presented by the HNBA Latina Commission and hosted by Hogan Lovells, which provided professional development and leadership training for Latina lawyers. The curriculum focused on executive presence, leadership skills, and authenticity in organizations where Latinas are underrepresented. Inspired, motivated and proud! Last week, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the the HNBA Latina Executive Leadership Program orientation in DC. Not only did we have a robust discussion on Latina Leadership in the legal industry, but we also shared our challenges and the importance of continuing to break through barriers and elevating one another. I am honored to be part of a cohort of poderosas and very fortunate to have already developed bonds and new friendships within the HNBA Region XII and beyond - nationally and internationally. Angel Gomez I am looking forward to growing professionally and personally throughout this journey and I can’t wait for the full experience. Happening Now: The State of Latino Attorney Wellness in the Legal Profession. Special thanks to moderator Maritza Rodríguez, Esq. and panelists, April Toy, Grissel Seijo and Raul Ayala for sharing their professional expertise and personal stories. We are grateful to Claudia Romero for providing us with some early statistics and takeaways from the HNBA’s Wellness Study. She reported that Hispanic lawyers have a high prevalence of burnout, anxiety and depression but having close friends is a potential protective factor. Finally, but certainly not least, many thanks to Anna Maria Tejada who chaired and organized this conference’s excellent plenaries.

Today, we had the privilege of hosting an insightful panel discussion on a high-stakes topic: "The Dangers of a Congressional Investigation: How Civil and Criminal Investigations Can Follow."* The session, expertly moderated by Samuel Romero Ramer from Norton Rose Fulbright, featured a distinguished panel including Raphael Prober Gump), James Mandolfo (House Committee on Oversight and Accountability), and @Arya Harlharan (U. S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary). The panelists explored the complexities and risks associated with Congressional inquiries, particularly how they can impact clients' reputations and expose them to further legal challenges. The discussion delved into effective strategies for defending clients, navigating privilege issues, managing legislative interactions, and preparing for the intense scrutiny of Congress. This panel provided invaluable insights into safeguarding clients' interests in such a high-pressure environment.
