HMPG Project of the Month- November 2024- 30 YEARS!!!!!! November 2024 is the 30 year anniversary of the founding of Hirsch Associates. Howard Hirsch took the risk of leaving his employment and starting a new firm at the age of 33, with two young daughters and a new house and mortgage. Howard employed one intern, bought a Pentium 6 Computer, a copy of AutoCad Lite, and established the firm in a two room office at 566 West Adams. That firm grew steadily, weathered two major recessions and was ultimately rebranded as Hirsch MPG in January of 2018 as Andrew Myren, Richard Parks and David Genc became partners. It has been a long and exciting journey. So....for this month's project, we are posting photos of the award winning projects created at HMPG through its 30 year history. The December issue of Retrofit Magazine has been published, featuring the winning entries in the 2024 Metamorphosis Awards, including 732 West Randolph (West Randolph Offices), the First Place winner in the Addition category. Congratulations to everyone who worked with us on this fantastic project. This is one of three awards received to date for the project, including an Excellence in Masonry Award in the Commercial Office category and a Merit Award from the Association of Licensed Architects. On Saturday, the Masonry Advisory Council gave out their 2024 Excellence in Masonry Architectural Awards. HMPG is proud to announce that our design for the 732 West Randolph Office Building (West Randolph Offices) received the "Best of Commercial Office" award. Congratulations to the ownership, design and construction teams for realizing a new kind of urban loft office building. Today at Noon was the grand opening of the new H&M store at 679 N. Michigan Avenue. It was an exciting event with a ribbon cutting ceremony, a DJ and a line that stretched down the block to see this relocated store. HMPG was the architect-of record, working closely with the H&M in-house design team, the building owner (Water Tower Realty), the GC (Trellis Group LLC) and the whole design team (The Engineering Studio, Forefront Structural Engineers). Formerly the Apple Store before it moved to its current riverfront site, the building sat vacant for many years. The renovation included all new windows, worked within the stone rainscreen facade, a new three level stair connecting all sales floors, a new Michigan Avenue entrance, and other modifications needed to achieve the design goals of H&M. It is now open, an exciting development for Michigan Avenue. Stop in and have a look, or buy a few things....

HMPG- Project of the Month- October 2024 VIENNA BEEF PLAZA Eater Chicago featured our work on Vienna Beef Plaza, the renovation and repurposing of the former Vienna Beef Factory at 2501 N. Damen in Chicago. This has been a really fun project to work on. Phase one brought Vienna Beef's corporate offices back to the second floor but with a completely refreshed design. We worked closely with the interior design firm Curioso in creating an office space that is modern and light filled yet also respected the long and storied history of Vienna Beef. Phase 2 repurposed a portion of the factory and former pickle-room into the newest Binny's Beverage Depot. Phase 3, which is expected to open next spring, will be a Vienna Beef restaurant and retail store where food and merchandise can be purchased and the story of Vienna Beef will be told. It will be a true "Vienna Beef Experience" complete with outdoor dining on a new plaza. Phase 4 will be filling the rest of the vacant factory with additional tenants. The Vienna Beef team a true family affair, have been great to partner with. Thanks also to the rest of the design and construction team. We remember fondly going to the former factory store on this site for corned beef, pastrami, hot dogs and all the other great Vienna Beef products. Can't wait to experience the new version when it opens next spring. HMPG Project of the Month- August 2024 PICKLE HAUS, ALGONQUIN, IL Pickle Ball has become one of the fastest growing sports in America, loved by people of all ages. Pickle Haus, a new venture between Hubbard Street Group and College Park Athletic Club, was established to try and meet the growing need for new courts. The first Pickle Haus was completed in a former furniture store in Algonquin. Not only does it provide pickle ball courts, It is a full-service club providing retail sales, food and beverage options, an event space, golf simulators, and an outdoor plaza with fire pits, dining, and other activities. It is also a great example of how to reuse vacant big-box retail buildings which are in abundant supply. HMPG worked with Harken interiors to develop the planning concepts for the first of hopefully many Pickle Haus facilities and establish their interior design standards and branding. HMPG is currently working with Pickle Haus to look at numerous other locations, both the reuse of former big-box retail, as well as new construction, across the Chicagoland area and Midwest.
