    Think of rogue spend like your streaming services. Sure, you might not *need* Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, Paramount+, Peacock, and Max, but... ˉ\_(ツ)_/ˉ Unfortunately, a few dollars here and another monthly subscription there can have a major monetary impact on any business. Rogue spending is more than just dollars out the door. It's more than a *malevolent* manager purchasing software without approval. It's deeper than one *sneaky* salesperson adding a few seats to another piece of software. (Incidentally, I couldn't find a single example of a marketing team member guilty of rogue spending! ?? Weird ??) While each instance of program deviance might appear minor, over time, they add up — and can negatively impact the company’s financial performance.     ?? Whoops, I dropped some stats about contingent workers! Before you rush to the comment section, "Gerard, you're always dropping stats!" let me educate you. While giraffes *technically* have forelimbs (aka arms), we are mostly good at being really tall. So, yeah, sometimes we drop things! Where was I? Right, the stats! Did you know... ?????? 40% of global workers are contract (or contingent) workers.? (source: Procurious) And before you say, "Well, that's probably not by choice—" ?????? 70% of contingent workers are contractors by choice, rather than because they can’t find full-time employment. (source: ADP) As the desire for flexibility and autonomy only increases, we've been focusing on topics like employee happiness, engagement, team-building, feedback, and employee appreciation. Specifically, as the contingent workforce grows, employers must learn how to replicate the old "water cooler" camraderie with their contract workforce.     This superyacht owner learned a $3 million lesson about recruiting and training from a box of Brillo pads. ??? Imagine this scenario: Your superyacht is all staffed and ready to hit the high seas when you notice a $3 million piece of art is missing. Relatable, right? ?? That’s exactly what happened when a crew member accidentally discarded an authentic Andy Warhol Brillo Box sculpture. ?? Warhol created three life-sized versions of the Brillo boxes in 1964. His yellow, red, and blue wooden Brillo boxes famously fetched $3 million in a 2010 Christie’s auction. So, whose fault was this? As super yachts increasingly become floating art galleries, it’s in the best interest of the yacht owners to ensure that crews are familiar with the valuable artworks onboard. This is a fairly straightforward recruiting and training issues. Superyachts containing priceless artworks should be staffed with attention similar to that of an art gallery.?This means assembling a crew (or hiring a single crew member) with experience in both yachting and art conservatorship. ??
