Recruiters! I talk a lot about the aggregation of marginal gains, if you want to make 37% more hires for the same effort, you would too ?? Most teams think the answer to hiring more people is more. More sourcing, more candidates, more interviews. But what if you could make 37% more hires just by improving what you already have? It’s all about marginal gains. Here is a super simplified example of a recruitment process : - 70% of screens progress to skills interviews - 60% of skills interviews move to final interviews - 75% of final interviews lead to offers - 85% of offers turn into hires If you start with 100 screens, you get 27 hires. Now, what if you improved each stage by just 4%? ? 74% pass screens ? 64% pass skills interviews ? 79% pass final interviews ? 89% accept offers With the same 100 screens, you now get 37 hires. That’s a 37% increase in hires, without adding more candidates to the top of the funnel. If your CEO said "we need to increase hires 37% with no additional resources", you would probably freak out. But if you challenged yourself to find a way to improve each conversion by 4%, I bet you already have a few ideas don't you. Well that would net you the same result! Here’s how to make it happen: 1?? Fix the leaks - Track conversion rates at each stage and identify where candidates drop off. 2?? Sharpen your screening process - Tighter role calibration, better candidate targeting, and clear assessment criteria will improve early-stage conversions. 3??Shadow Skills Interviews - Take more time learning how the skills interviews work so you can give really good first hand prep to candidates. 4?? Reduce friction in final stages - Ensure interviewers are aligned, eliminate unnecessary steps, and pre-close candidates before offer stage.
