? This Weekend we Celebrated Black Excellence in the Boardroom ? Him For Her was honored to partner with Black Women On Boards for an empowering event featuring founders Merline Saintil and Robin Washington, and hosted by the esteemed Barry Lawson Williams. Together, we welcomed 50 black, board-qualified women, connecting them with CEOs and investors to catalyze impactful change and representation in corporate boardrooms. A huge thanks to everyone who contributed to this incredible experience! The energy, insights, and connections shared reaffirm the power of diverse voices in shaping today’s boards. We’re also thrilled to announce the release of Barry Lawson Williams' "100 Black Voices"—a powerful collection of video interviews with some of the most influential Black directors in America. This series offers invaluable perspectives on board diversity, selection strategies, and personal effectiveness for the next generation of board leaders. We hope "100 Black Voices" will inspire and guide individuals and companies alike to work towards a more inclusive future. “Right now, companies guided by their boards, are deciding what we eat, what we spend, and what we get for the money, how safe our cars are, what we can do about climate change, what solutions are available when our aging parents don't recognize us anymore. When you think about it, boards are key levers for social and economic change.” Cognitive diversity on boards matters. If you have yet to do so, check out Jocelyn Mangan’s TEDx talk delivered at our alma mater, Vanderbilt University (also known for its winning football ??team this year), last fall. 18 minutes of a true story from a talented storyteller and inspiring founder of Him For Her.
A year ago, I delivered a TEDx talk focused on the importance of board diversity. I spoke about why this topic should be top of mind for us all, why private companies in particular are so important, and why who sits on private company boards matters so much for our future.? A year later, these messages all still ring true. In fact, they are only becoming more crucial as we uncover the overlap between board diversity and climate change progress, and while we watch private companies deploy AI at a rapid clip.? If you have eighteen minutes, I encourage you to watch the full talk. If you only have a few minutes to scan, this month's newsletter highlights takeaways worth thinking through and sharing. https://lnkd.in/g-wszBhE #TEDxNashville #boarddiversity #himforher #illumyn

"At Him For Her, we believe that diverse perspectives fuel innovation and drive sustainable growth. It's inspiring to see the data confirming the tangible impact of having women in independent director roles. The 16% capital increase for companies with female independent directors reinforces what we’ve long known: inclusive governance isn't just the right thing to do; it's smart business. As we continue advocating for more inclusive boardrooms, we’re excited to see boards recognize the long-term benefits of cognitive diversity. Together, let’s build a future where every board has the expertise, perspectives, and networks needed to thrive. Read more about our latest findings with Crunchbase and discover the value of inclusive governance. #BoardDiversity #HimForHer illumyn #buildingbetterboards #Leadership
The latest study from Crunchbase and Him For Her highlights important strides in gender diversity on private company boards, showing a rise in women holding independent director roles.Notably, when companies have only one independent director and that director is a woman, they raise an average of 16% more capital than when that independent director is a man. Adding independent directors provides private company boards with the opportunity to tap critical expertise, bring in new perspectives, and expand the reach of their networks. While companies have been slower to take advantage of this lever in the last two years, continued progress even in the midst of challenging capital markets suggests that boards recognize the long-term value of cognitive diversity. Let’s continue pushing for inclusive governance! Read more about the findings here:?https://lnkd.in/gUQRfUw7 #BoardDiversity #WomenInLeadership #InclusiveGovernance #trustandperformance
