Meet Tiffany, a graduate of the HCPS Accelerated Special Education Teacher Preparation Program (STEP) and now, ESE teacher at Davidsen Middle School! After spending 20 years in corporate America, she decided it was time for a change. She said, "It was easy, as easy as it could be. My degree was in business, so I thought, oh, I can do this! I like to learn new things, like how to manage a classroom. You can take those skills and use them at home- how to help students learn to do different skills and see the face of confidence and the excitement they have when they do a task they didn't think they could do." Tiffany's experience in training employees helped her feel confident that she could naturally become a teacher, but no matter what skills she has used, anyone with a Bachelor's degree or higher can learn more. ?? This week celebrates the contributions of school psychologists and the important role they play at HCPS and in our community. This year's theme, "Spark Discovery," honors the work that school psychologists do to assist our students to thrive in school, at home, and in life. ??

Our incredible HCPS Transportation Team is once again making a difference by transporting over 120 bikes to organizations that uplift those in need within our community, including our students and their families. We proudly?support Bikes For Christ, Inc. in Dover, Metropolitan Ministries, and Bikes from the Heart in Tampa by donating and delivering bikes that support their impactful missions.?The donated?bikes are given to our schools and offered as gifts to students, helping to combat chronic absenteeism. Each bike serves as a motivational tool to encourage students to attend school on time because every day matters. #StrongerTogether #HillsboroughSchools #AttendenceMatters #EveryDayMatters

In Hillsborough County Public Schools, a College and Career Counselor role is vital when helping students apply to college and explore other post-secondary options. By securing additional funding, our district could ensure that every high school has its own dedicated College and Career Counselor. With more than 60,000 high school students across our district, the need for this life-changing guidance is tremendous. These counselors not only alleviate stress but also empower students to identify their next steps after graduation. Their support includes comprehensive assistance with scholarship applications and partnering with parents to provide essential tips and tools, enabling families to actively support their children's educational pursuits in the real world. Congratulations to Alexander Brownell at Progress Village Middle Magnet School of the Arts on being named Arts4All Florida Student of the Month! This monthly recognition highlights the significant positive impact that the arts can have on students with disabilities across Florida. As part of this honor, Alexander will receive a trophy acknowledging his exceptional contributions to the arts at such a young age. Both he and his art teacher, Julianne Gonzalez, will also receive a $50 Amazon gift card. Gonzalez shares that Alex brings a unique perspective to the art studio. “His interests include visual representations of abstract ideas such as music and emotions. I am inspired by Alex and other young artists who are discovering their abilities and enjoy the process of creation.” Thank you, Arts4All Florida, for supporting and championing arts education and cultural experiences for individuals with disabilities.
