Hill Aerospace Museum is located on approximately 30 acres of the northwest corner of Hill Air Force Base, five miles south of Ogden, Utah. The Museum, which opened in 1986, was founded in 1981 as a part of the United States Air Force Heritage Program. The Utah Museum moved to its current facility in 1991 and hosted its four millionth visitor in the spring of 2014. More than 265,000 visitors, coming from every state and from many foreign countries, visited the Museum last year. Not only does the Museum have close to 100 aircraft displayed in its two inside galleries and outside air park, it exhibits thousands of artifacts depicting the history of aviation of the United States Air Force, Hill Air Force Base and the State of Utah. Hill Aerospace Museum also has a STEM Education program housed in the Lt. General Marc C. Reynolds Aerospace Center for Education. The mission of the Reynolds Aerospace Center for Education is to bolster area youth by promoting interest in STEM Education. The ACE experience enhances and inspires more than 40,000 K-12 students each year as they are exposed to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The Mission of the Hill Aerospace Museum is to Educate and inspire all ages through history, with a focus on the United States Air Force, Hill Air Force Base, Utah Aviation, and unique learning experiences.

  • Did you know that it is more complicated to repair an airplane than to build a new one? Fixing torn up metal, re-riveting structures, or overhauling aircraft systems and components has proven to be a difficult, but important task that saves the US Air Force valuable resources each year. During World War II, Hill Field grew into a thriving installation that played a crucial role in depot maintenance, repair, overhaul, supply, and training. Crucial to this was the ability to efficiently take one war weary bomber and put it back into working order each day, a difficult accomplishment that won the base national attention. The B-17 Flying Fortress, pictured here at Wendover Field in 1942, is one of many war-weary bombers that would have been returned to like-new condition at Hill. Several bomb groups trained for conflict at Wendover. Luckily, they were just a short trip from the base’s valuable work force when needed!

  • It's #MuseumMonday! The B-17 Flying Fortress is one of the most famous and beloved aircraft flown in World War II. Over 12,000 of these bombers were originally produced for combat. Today, only about 40 remain in museums and less than a dozen are in flying condition. To learn more about the Museum's B-17, "Short Bier," check out our most recent blog! https://lnkd.in/gu4e4hjW #HillAerospaceMuseum #FreeAdmission #HillAFB #USAF #B-17FlyingFortress #WorldWarII

  • Our #VolunteerSpotlight for this month is Jessica Flinn! Jessica is a retired Air Force Veteran who earned a degree in history and recently joined both the museum team volunteer team, and our education team as an intern! She spent 20 years as an Air Force medical technician and the last 6 years in flight medicine working with flyers and air crews. She is currently working on her master's degree from AMU. One of the things Jessica enjoys most about the volunteer program is getting to work alongside fellow veterans and hear their incredible experiences. Her favorite aircraft in our collection is the C-130 because of the role it played in her father's military career as a crew chief, as well as her work doing patient transport. Welcome to the team, Jessica! We are so excited to have you with us!

  • The LGM-30G Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, is a critical element of the nation's strategic deterrent forces directed by Air Force Global Strike Command. ICBM mission support plays a major role in the operations at Hill Air Force Base. When the US Air Force began designing the Minuteman in the early 1960s, Hill AFB already had a seasoned history with nuclear weapons systems management and was selected as the site to assemble and manage the US Air Force’s new Minuteman ICBM. This photo portrays the winding of fiberglass on a motor of a Minuteman III at Hill in the 1970s.

  • Did you know that our Education Team teaches art, history, as well as science classes? In our Nose Art lesson, the Education Staff explore why airmen paint the noses of their planes and the meaning behind some of the most iconic aircraft art from World War II. Then students create meaningful nose art of their very own! We schedule lessons with homeschool, charter, private, and public school groups throughout the school year! To learn more about our lessons and fun ways to engage, please contact us at: [email protected] or go to https://lnkd.in/gg3qfmRE #HillAerospaceMuseum #FreeAdmission #STEAMEducation #NoseArt
