This week Peter Fardy, ICD.D debunks myths around major gift fundraising. Learn from his playbook and foster more meaningful relationships. https://lnkd.in/gFpVYTp2
Helping donors, their advisors and organizations they support make greater impact through philanthropy.
Charitable organizations are regrettably still not immune to longstanding myths about major gift fundraising. These must be put to rest and supplanted with new truths. Read this short piece in Hilborn Charity eNews at https://lnkd.in/g5NfDspW Special thanks to Jim Langley for helping plant the seeds of my views on this subject over many past years. Embrace the awkward. There’s nothing wrong with feeling awkward. It’s part of the human condition.??Yet, we often avoid having difficult, uncomfortable or perceived-as-awkward conversations.??I could be talking about this in (literally) thousands of contexts, but today I’m picking on a reluctance to do succession planning in our nonprofit organizations. In this week’s Hilborn Charity eNews,?Lee Pigeau?shares some stats—most organizations are woefully unprepared for both planned and unplanned leadership transitions. Why is this happening? One reason is that succession planning isn’t being discussed. “Conversations about leadership transitions can feel personal, sparking mistrust or suspicion,” says Lee. Yes?— these conversations are awkward. But Lee provides a path forward, with steps you can take so that you’re better prepared when a letter of resignation lands in your inbox. https://lnkd.in/ggAJFFgi If you’re on a roll “embracing the awkward,”?Nic (Nicole) Gagliardi also?has some pro tips on tackling the issue of board committees leading operational work. If you want to create a more effective, resilient structure, this is a place to start. https://lnkd.in/gzQUy4U9 #Leadership #nonprofit

Congratulations to first-time contributor, Lois Graveline on her article "The Quiet Heroes of Philanthropy" featured in this week's issue of Hilborn Charity eNews. www.charityinfo.ca https://lnkd.in/gz-mQ2Da
Lois Graveline, really does understand what individuals can do for communities being served by "under the radar" charities. There are so many good people doing extraordinary things that are never tweeted or posted about and will never go viral. Kudos to them, the donors that make transformational gifts without a building named after them and of course to the fundraisers who work every day connecting these hidden hearts with community needs. https://lnkd.in/ejRevCwx

I just returned from a girls’ weekend; three days of laughter, shared stories, good food and rest.??It filled my friend cup. How good are we at filling the other “cups” that inhabit our lives – in particular those that relate to work/life balance????In this week's Hilborn Charity eNews,?Kimberley MacKenzie, CPCC, ACC ?continues to make a case for wellness in our #nonprofit workplaces.??The subject is collaboration.??The tools she asks us to adopt start with communication on the topics of: ·???????a tense working environment, ·???????shared values, ·???????setting common goals, and ·???????creating a team “promise.” https://lnkd.in/gCztSx2r We know a siloed workplace creates unnecessary obstacles to efficiency. Splintering our emotional, physical and mental needs between home and work can create a similar disjointedness in our day-to-day reality. Prioritizing a holistic approach to workplace wellness can only improve our professional experiences, ensuring productive days and greater mission impact. May this message help to start your day right by filling your inspiration cup!
