HII recently welcomed guests from the U.S. Navy’s Program Executive Office Unmanned & Small Combatants (PEO USC) and its Unmanned Maritime Systems program office (PMS 406) to our Unmanned Systems manufacturing facility in Pocasset, Massachusetts. CAPT Matt Lewis, Program Manager; CDR Ryan Hilger, Deputy Program Manager; Rick Hammond, and Cheryl Mierzwa toured our versatile production space, observing the manufacturing process for REMUS unmanned underwater vehicles. The reconfigurable facility is scalable to allow simultaneous production of various models of the REMUS UUV family of systems, ranging from the REMUS 100, 130, and 300 portable vehicles to the latest REMUS 620 fully modular medium-class high endurance vehicle. The visit wrapped up with our traditional wall signing, commemorating a memorable day of technological exchange and collaborative discussions. HII remembers the lives that were lost during an unspeakable act of terrorism on our great nation more than two decades ago. Wednesday marks 23 years since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, that resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. USS New York (#LPD21), built by Ingalls Shipbuilding, a Division of HII, was constructed using approximately seven tons of steel salvaged from the former twin towers of the World Trade Center. Two other Ingalls-built ships, USS Arlington (#LPD24) and USS Somerset (#LPD25), are named to honor the victims of 9/11 and incorporate steel from the other sites of the attacks. Today, these ships all sail to carry out our mission of protecting peace and freedom around the world. May we #NeverForget.

Less than two years after design efforts began, HII continues testing the third generation of its medium-class unmanned undersea vehicle (MUUV), the REMUS 620. In recent sea trials, conducted on Aug. 14 in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, a REMUS 620 successfully completed a mission outfitted with a KRAKEN MINSAS 120 Synthetic Aperture Sonar, delivering high-resolution imagery of a mission target. “We gained a lot of valuable operational data using the KRAKEN MINSAS 120,” said Adrian Gonsalves, lead engineer for the REMUS 620. “These sea tests, combined with our extensive use of hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop simulations, allowed us to greatly accelerate the continuous improvements to this third generation MUUV.” HII’s Mission Technologies, a division of HII will deliver the first two production REMUS 620s to a customer later this month. REMUS users and industry partners from around the world gathered in Portsmouth, England, in July to share their experiences using HII’s unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). “It’s a critical event to hear lessons learned and recommendations for improvement from the operators of REMUS UUVs based on real world operations,” said?Gary Rogeness, senior director of business development. “Building the best UUVs in the world is something we are very proud of,” said Martin Lewis, senior program director, “but truly listening to our customers is part of a larger commitment to provide best-in-class vehicles and payload capabilities to our allies and partners. Providing the team with information on the latest in third-generation REMUS technology—designed to ease maintenance burdens and increase operational flexibility—was a key message that both HII and our industry partners brought to the group.” Learn more about HII’s REMUS UUVs:?https://lnkd.in/egNrtddK.

HII is proud that two of HII’s advanced capabilities — the Virginia-class submarine USS Delaware (SSN 791), built by Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of HII, and the REMUS medium unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), built by HII Unmanned Systems — will be operationally deployed together to enhance the mission capabilities of the US Navy. The Yellow Moray system, which facilitates the end-to-end submarine torpedo tube launch and recovery of a REMUS UUV from Virginia-class submarines, is a game-changer, significantly boosting the operational capabilities of the U.S. Navy's submarines and their contributions to our nation's unified combatant commands worldwide. At HII, we are honored to continue our partnership with the U.S. Navy, increasing national security through the innovative integration of our manned and unmanned systems. Together, we are driving advancements that ensure the safety and effectiveness of our armed forces. ??Story via Naval News by Dr Lee Willett https://lnkd.in/eyS4Z_fr
