Duane Fotheringham, president of the Uncrewed Systems group at HII Mission Technologies, was quoted in Inside Defense today. “We're there on modularity,” he said of HII’s unmanned underwater vehicles, which are all designed with open architecture. “As we build the vehicles and we design the vehicles, we can take out energy sections, and we can replace them. It's really energy agnostic.” Read the full story at: https://lnkd.in/eXyiAWr4. (Subscription required). A Major Leap in Unmanned Systems Innovation ?? HII’s Uncrewed Systems team in Pocasset, Massachusetts, had the honor of hosting Capt. Jon J. H., program manager of the US Navy’s Expeditionary Missions program office, as we took a closer look at the Lionfish program. As the first Lionfish unmanned underwater vehicles near delivery, this visit highlights the critical role these innovative systems play in supporting our warfighters. Capt. Haase’s valuable insights reinforced the importance of REMUS UUVs, which are crucial to advancing mission readiness and ensuring operational success. "Getting to hear directly from such a respected advocate for our technology is truly invaluable," said Duane Fotheringham, president of Mission Technologies' Uncrewed Systems group. "His perspective strengthens our commitment to developing reliable, mission-ready systems that deliver capabilities at the speed of relevance." ?? A team from HII’s Mission Technologies division recently familiarized US Navy sailors and technicians with the features of the REMUS 620 medium-class unmanned underwater vehicle (MUUV). The familiarization session followed a highly successful operational period at the U.S. Navy’s UUV Confidence Course in Bangor, Washington. “Being able to show this latest design of our MUUV to our sailors right after operating it on their confidence course was a real privilege for us,” said Adrian Gonsalves, the REMUS 620 product manager at Mission Technologies’ Uncrewed Systems group. “These sailors train the fleet and operate the UUVs in the fleet. The feedback we got was very positive.” Gonsalves offered special thanks to Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Group ONE (UUVGRU-1) for making the event a reality. “We incorporated a lot of improvements to make the vehicle easier to maintain and operate,” he said, “and it’s hard to beat seeing that first-hand.” Learn more about HII’s Uncrewed Systems at https://lnkd.in/ezu359c9.

HII’s REMUS 620 medium-class unmanned underwater vehicle (MUUV) recently completed the U.S. Navy’s UUV Confidence Course in Bangor, Washington. Defense Daily reported last week that the vessel’s operations on the course “validated ‘several’ technical aspects” of the MUUV. “The confidence course provided us a great benchmark that we can use to continue our improvements to this great design and gave us a chance to show UUV sailors in Keyport how much improvement we built into this next-generation MUUV in terms of modularity and maintainability, said Adrian Gonsalves, the REMUS 620 product manager in HII’s Mission Technologies division. HII recently welcomed guests from the U.S. Navy’s Program Executive Office Unmanned & Small Combatants (PEO USC) and its Unmanned Maritime Systems program office (PMS 406) to our Unmanned Systems manufacturing facility in Pocasset, Massachusetts. CAPT Matt Lewis, Program Manager; CDR Ryan Hilger, Deputy Program Manager; Rick Hammond, and Cheryl Mierzwa toured our versatile production space, observing the manufacturing process for REMUS unmanned underwater vehicles. The reconfigurable facility is scalable to allow simultaneous production of various models of the REMUS UUV family of systems, ranging from the REMUS 100, 130, and 300 portable vehicles to the latest REMUS 620 fully modular medium-class high endurance vehicle. The visit wrapped up with our traditional wall signing, commemorating a memorable day of technological exchange and collaborative discussions. Ryan Maddock and Megan Schuette, staff members for U.S. Rep. Bill Keating (D-Mass.), visited HII’s production facility in Pocasset, Massachusetts, on Sept. 3. "Engaging with Congressional staff is crucial for showcasing how our innovative unmanned systems protect national security," said Duane Fotheringham, president of HII Mission Technologies' Unmanned Systems business unit. "Visits like this highlight the real-world impact of our work, from advancing marine research with NOAA to bolstering our nation's defense capabilities." Fotheringham and members of the UxS team discussed recent milestones, including HII’s delivery of two REMUS 620s to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). To commemorate their visit, Maddock and Schuette signed the visitor wall with a message to the team. Learn more about the recent REMUS 620 delivery here: https://lnkd.in/eUVTED65

HII remembers the lives that were lost during an unspeakable act of terrorism on our great nation more than two decades ago. Wednesday marks 23 years since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, that resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. USS New York (#LPD21), built by Ingalls Shipbuilding, a Division of HII, was constructed using approximately seven tons of steel salvaged from the former twin towers of the World Trade Center. Two other Ingalls-built ships, USS Arlington (#LPD24) and USS Somerset (#LPD25), are named to honor the victims of 9/11 and incorporate steel from the other sites of the attacks. Today, these ships all sail to carry out our mission of protecting peace and freedom around the world. May we #NeverForget.
